69' cst basement build

Ok well after having my truck for almost a year I've decided to start tearing it down first let me explain my crazy title for this thread my garage is attached to the basement/house and barely has enough room to even park the truck in let alone work on it so I've got to use part of the basement for small parts (fenders doors etc.)

Now on to truck Its a 1969 chevy cst. It has a 396 bb auto with factory posi. Power steering and a/c. Its a very very solid truck so the body work should be very easy.

The to do list

Body: I'll do all the work my self. My plans are to do a 5/7 static drop with rally wheels. I plan on leaving the outside stock appearing with all the trim door handles etc. Im going with a custom tri coat paint. Black base for sure but undecided with what kind of mid coat to go with. Ill just have to play around with that when i get a little closer to paint

Engine drive train: Ill completely rebuild the 396. Looking for 4-500 horse. Tranny i haven't decided 100% on if i'll keep the th400 or go with a muncie or a 200r4. The rear end. All really depends on what gears are in it factory and how reliable that posi is for that horse if i do much to it but im sure i'll have to change gears depending on how i build the motor

So that should be about all of it. I'll. Post some pics up once my photobucket decides to work. Hopefully by tomorrow

Re: 69' cst basement build

Well didn't get a huge amount of progress done tonight. But ants better than none i got the garage all sorted out so i can acualy some what pull the truck in and work on it. Than started the tear down process. Got the hood and half of the grill off found out i need to take the bumper off first. Which i new was just hoping i could get by with out it. So i'll have to bring my breaker bar and impact home tomorrow seeing as i only have a basic set of tools at home

I'll post some progress pics up tomorrow since i forgot to take pics before i pushed it back in.

Dont tear it down too far that you cant get it backtogether and loose interest. That is a HUGE bumper LOL

Re: 69' cst basement build

Here's a few tricks i've learned the past few years to help thoug out a build and especially during the re assembly process. I like to put all the hardware in zip lock baggies and label them what they go to. Plus you can take a piece of tape on what ever part u take off the driver side so you can remember what is what side. And last but not least make a parts list while you tear down. For those little parts that u can't anticipate. I know it sounds like common sense but these little things can really help.

Re: 69' cst basement build

First off guys thanks for the compliments.
I got a couple Hrs of work on the truck tonight. Had to clean out the basement first so i could start putting parts away. I got the front of the motor stripped (power steering a/c etc.) All the.front wiring harness disconnected and removed.

After all the trucks I've been looking at on here i noticed that alot of them rust out on the top of the a pillar by the windshield so i had to pull the windshield cuz curiosity was killing me

I'll get some pics up soon but photo bucket is throwing a fit again.

P.S. if anyone knows a better way.of uploading photos on here with a mobile device i would be.very.grateful to know
Nick
