My bolt in Bear Claw latches

Well I got the latches in yesterday. It came with detailed instructions and a template to cut out the door to allow for the installation of the latching mechanism. I taped the template and then made the cuts with a jigsaw. I would recomend putting something between the jigsaw and door to prevent scratching the paint. Which i was a little late doing so some touch up paint is in my future. The template is goot to get you close but I had to do a bit of grinding to get it pefect to fit the latch. I also had to cut a hole for the new handle arm to pass through. which is also in the instructions. then everything was pretty much just follow directions and bolt in. I am very happy with everything and my door closes pefect everytime with little effort and opend even easier. Is it worth $300, well if you dont want to do a lot of touch up paint and are tired of fabricating then yes. Photos to follow they are decompressing

Could you get a closer picture of the latch assembly? What I'm curious to see is how they did the turn down piece to receive the square end of the OEM handle. Thanks!!!!!!

Curious to what that 1/2" or so hole at the bottom of the install plate is for...

very cool, and thanks for posting. i am really wanting the bear claws for my 57, but was hesitant on them from Trique Manufacturing because of the price.
but if you installed them in 1 hour each side, i think bolt in is the way i will go.
how hard was it to get the original outside door handles to hook up to the latch ?
also, is there any play on either the latch or door spike for adjustment, or do you have to be right on for the door claw install ?

the 1/2 inch hole is actually a 1" hole and it is where the handle arm that goes throught the door where I cut the square hole connects. It connects the inside door handle to the latch assembly. the hole is to access to screw the bolt in. I will try and take a better picture of where the handle connects. It will no longer lock by turning my inside handle. But there is a latch on it that you can connect a popper to lock and unlock.. Which i will have to look into since I cant lock it now

i suppose on my 57 i can get a passenger side locking outside door handle, like on my drivers side, to lock it from the outside ?

the striker is bolted to original holes so the are a bit adjustable. But to tell you the truth it was so well made that it didnt need much adjustment. A lot of trial and error was put into the production of these. and when I put my door panels back on it hides most all of the bracket

I would believe if you have locking handles they should work but you could contact the company and they will tell you

There is a small rotating release lever with a square hole to accept the shaft. The shaft is then guided into an opening on a bracket that runs the full length of the latch. This opening allows the shaft to rotate without losing its center. It may still be a little hard to see in this image, but it should give you a good idea.

There is not currently a provision for an inside lock. This is something that we are looking into very soon for all of our kits.

57 3100:

Our latch kits will pay for themselves in the time that is saved fabricating something like this yourself. If you figure what your time is worth and then set out to fabricate the linkage and brackets to make a universal latch work with your handles you will see an immediate savings. Then when you add the fact that our jam plates are contoured to fit your doors, that alone will save time and money. A universal jam plate will not fit nicely due to the curves and bends on these doors. Other options are welding, sheet metal work, filler, and paint. When you look at the big picture our kit saves a lot of money and the results are proven at the end of the job.
Our striker plates are slotted up and down for vertical adjustment and the stock nuts in the cab jam provides your side to side adjustment.
Yes, a locking handle for your passenger side will certainly work to lock both doors.

i watched the demonstration video of the latches on your site, the door had a lock cylinder in it that worked with the latch assembly, is that also available?

All of our kits come with the provision to use an exterior lock cylinder. Even though most of these trucks only came with a lock cylinder on the passenger side, our latches feature this provision on both the left and right hand latches. We do not supply the lock cylinders, nor do we carry them at this time. If this didn't answer your question just let me know and I will be glad to try again.

We received our latches last week but have not been working on the doors yet, but will start on them in a week or so.
I will refer to your pics as they are clearer than the ones that came in the instructions.

I use Trique on my 59 built the cab was already in primer,didn,t want to go back and do it the old way.Very nice parts and easy to install saves a lot of time and work..Will use them on the next built too........

a little pricey in my opinion, i looked at doing them briefly a long time ago.
i'd think your better off with all new repop hardware for about half the cost.
with all the mods i have on my doors, i still use the stock latches.
