looking for a good 383 rotating assembly

has anyone heard of skipwhite performance? they are out of kingsport, tennesse.

i found this setup on ebay and looked into and it seems like a pretty good deal.

just trying to get some input on it and if anyone knows any other place i may be able to get a stroker setup for a fair price.

Re: looking for a good 383 rotating assembly

Scat is by far the best stuff.

I personally don't think much of the Skip White assemblies for a couple of reasons.

First, they're typically CAST cranks and FORGED pistons - which is just dumb; you're paying more for the pistons than are needed. They note in the ad that "The Probe forged pistons are capable of handling far more hp than the rest of the assembly." Stupid.

Second, they claim to be balanced...but they say in the small print that they're "externally" balanced....and this is not the same thing. Nothing wrong with an external balance assembly...as long as you don't turn past 5000-5500 RPM on a regular basis.

Don't cheap out on the biggest expense of the build - your best bet is an internally balanced assembly from Scat.

I no longer buy Eagle cranks after returning 3 cast cranks in a row and 2 forged cranks in a row that had unacceptable taper and index - they were junk.

Re: looking for a good 383 rotating assembly

I have purchased several things from skip white in the past, they are an honest shop that stands buy their warranty.....although their advertising skills/grammar leave a little something to be desired.

Agree wholeheartedly with Ticker, Scat is the way to go for budget friendly internals. Have also seen poor quality Eagle cast cranks, even seen a couple break from hairline cracks that weren't caught before assembly. I run Scat crank/rods in my daily driver and Scat rods in my nitrous fed LSx camaro. Both are beaten on like they owe me money.

Re: looking for a good 383 rotating assembly

So I have a 454 and want to rebuild it starting this spring or hopefully in a month! Do you think I should get it internally balanced? Is it worth it? If so what would be better? I've heard of filling the counter-weight holes with Mallory metal and just simply getting a different crankshaft that's internally balanced. What do you guys recommend? This will be my first build.
