Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

Well i Guess it's about that time to start my Official Build Thread. Just got back from My Midtour, while i was home me and my dad and some buddies put a new bad a$$ mouse in the truck and a few other things like peep mirrors, new steering wheel, new rear bumper, new stereo, new exhaust, new rims and tires etc. Everything under the hood is brand new now from the radiator back to the heater core. I have 3 more months left here in Iraqistan but when i get back she will be getting shaved and painted( I really like the members truck that is surf blue...i have to ask him if i can steal his color lol). I also picked up my 67 gmc core support forward from my dads. So before she is painted i will be putting new 67 fenders and a cowl hood on. I just found out that i was picked up to be an Army Helicopter Warrant Officer so that might delay things a little bit. I have been a helicopter guy my whole carreer, and now i will finally be the guy up front i am stoked lol. Well here are some pictures of what we started with....Ill post picks of the progress as we go. Please let me know what you think positive and negative lol.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

here is the new motor in the crate and then in the back of the truck driving to its open heart surgery site. I thought that was a cool picture lol. Then my dad doing bad things to it, and one more pic of the old rat. The new motor was built by Patriot Performance out of Alabama...cant say enough about them. Customer service is awsome and i cant say enough about the motor. My motor dynoed by them at 368/400.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

We took our time pulling the old motor out...went relatively smooth, only took 3 hours. By the way we did this whole motor swap in a back yard just to prove you dont need a nice garage to do things lol....although it would have been nice. The old engine compartment was caked in 39 years of crap. I bought some wire brushes and some purple power and rented a pressure washer for 25 bucks and stipped the whole thing. Then I just went and bought some engine block semi-gloss and redid the engine compartment. I know its the half ass way but one days work made a big difference. Ill have it done right when i do the front end swap and shes painted. Also put the peep mirrors on that day.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

Ok shameless plug lol heres a crappy pic of my dad and I...I am on the left....see anyresemblence lol. Anyway here is the new motor in. We had the usual 10 unexpected trips to the parts store...went an ordered a ceramic clutch from napa etc....the whole process took about 4 days mostly because of unexpected crap. For some reason we had a hell of a problem with motor mounts. I had ordered some polyeurathane ones from summit and they where @#$%. We stripped one of them...who knows how. I ended up going and getting stockers for 8 bucks brand new and they were much better quality. It took us 3 hours to get the damn motor mounts to line up...i know rediculous right. The rest was pretty smooth. The motor started up after 2 cranks...no leaks...it was like overhaulin lol. It was a beautiful sound. I have a video of my dads friend messing with the carb on the first start and my dad in the truck ill try and post it.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

ok here is a pic of the finished product and the new exhaust, new shifter, new rims. Rims are really dirty in this pic. They are centerline smoothies 20 by 8.5 with 5.5 backspacing and 1 1/4 spacer in the rear and 18 x8 with 5.0 backspacing and 1 inch spacer in the front. The exhaust is Ceramic coated headers to 2.5 inch to borla xr-1 shootout mufflers with 3 inch to 3.5 inch borla intercooled exhaust tips just before each rear wheel. The shifter came from so cal speed shop and is the same one in Jimmy Shines barenkid pickup.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

here is the new steering wheel..its a Momo protipo and the new rear bumper i got from brothers. The picture at exxon is funny because right after that picture we realized my dads buddy didnt put the ebrake on..it started rolling towards a hill...coulda been bad..we stopped it lol.
Here is the old rims on my dads truck i bought him...also a 70 chevy. we did some work to his including my rims new tires new msd blaster coil and protronics hei conversion on his straight six. There was nothing wrong with my old rat except a blown rear main seal. We are gonna fix that motor up a little and put it in my dads truck when i get back. Anyone know if that 350 will bolt up to his 3 speed transmission? any other issues with putting my 350 in his straight six truck. His truck will also be getting my lowered suspension because mine will be getting bagged.
I also inlcuded this night time picture of our two trucks...thought it was cool

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

Well that was all i was able to get accomplished on my midtour in the 4 days i was their...i thought we got a lot accomplished. She made the 800 mile trip to dc without leaking/farting or anything. Drives like a caddy on the highway. I love my truck lol
Anyways here is the next step when i get back...67 gmc front end. I know cause i am crazy and think the 67 GMC looks better (we have already been over this)
Future plans
1. 67 GMC conversion..new fenders...cowl hood
2. Paint job (shaved and i am leaning towards surf blue right now)
3. Bagged
4. Leather interior/ autometer guages etc.
5. Drive it ....but you know they are never done
6. Maybe a tremec in the future

well thats all i have for now....
until next time

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

Looks like a good start..
By the way calling your engine a "rat" really only apply's if it is a Big Block.
Small blocks would be a mouse.
Not trying to be rude just giving ya some 411.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

Great truck!!! I am working on building a new mouse motor for mine. 350 HP sounds like a great number to me. Any more and I think you start to loose the street dependalility.

Most of all THANKS for your service to our country.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

i think that you have a great plan for that truck, and i may be biased but the gmc front end is way sexier, but that is just me. hope you get back soon and finish this truck, because i sure want to see more done to it.

Re: Project Mistaken Identity (70cst-->67 GMC)

I have some new pics for you guys. My budy back home and his friends back home are almost done putting the brakes and airsuspension on my truck. Just missing a few little things like brake lines and such. These pics are in no particular order lol. Enjoy....sorry about the bad qaulity. I wish I could have been there to do it myself but sometimes life calls lol.
