99 to Life, Thank you. Those pieces were really fun to make. I had to shrink them both ways to fit. I did the outside pieces in 3 parts because it was to difficult to do it in one. I tried! No springs , bagged all the way around and that is aired out in the pictures. I made the cab mounts when I made the ones for the 54 and if I remember right they are 4". I can let you know.

I had off today so I got a few things done today. I start by cutting out the blanks for the stake pockets for the truck. I have 2 different styles that I make them and my buddy wanted the more rounded style. I have templates that I made and cut them out with my plasma cutter. I use 2x4 .125 wall box tube so they are very strong when plug welded to the bed sides He is putting together his bed. Next I made the outer fender braces. I bend them in my roll cage bender in my 1 5/8 die and following bar. It works very well. They bolt to the radiator support and to the fender. I was going to make the headlight buckets like I made for the 54 but remembered that I had some buckets from a plymouth cranbrook and they will work. My buddy wants me to put the 55 eye brows and he is giving me the headlight trim pieces tomorrow, so that will be Sundays project.

I worked on the headlight today. I had to put the flange in so that it could be bolted to the fender then started to fit the 1955 chevy headlight brow. After plenty of slicing and dicing, hammering and dollying I got the drivers side done. There is a reason why you do not see it too often , it was very time consuming(all day). But it does really look nice. My buddy saw Alan Johnson's (the pinstriper) truck had that modification. Next is to finish gaping the drivers door. I did not gap them when I put the panels in it this past summer. I knew once it was bolted to the frame it might change. The only area that does not need done it where I shaved the drip rail and replaces all the metal around it. Then I will turn it around and do the other side. That should be this week and weekend.

It looks great. Normally when people screw with the headlights they come off looking out of place. Not the case with yours. Very original looking.

youngrodder, I know what you mean. That was the only truck I ever saw that was like that. I can not wait till I have the other side done so I can stand back and see the whole picture and not just one side. I can not take the credit for the idea though.

loving the metal work as always. I need to get my tool game up like you. As for the headlights. I'm a huge fan of the stock look, I like eyebrows though. I really think frenchin lights takes sooo much away from the style, so glad they didn't go that route.

if you can get your pics onto your computer, that is the biggest battle. Then resizing them to 72 dpi to the size you want (any more is useless because monitors only view in 72 dpi) but regardless, get your pics into a folder or know where they are located. When you reply or post on this forum you can scroll down and it will say upload pictures. Click on the icon and it will open up a dialog box, find the folder your pics are in and click on them. You can upload 4 or 5 at a time, then you click the upload button. You can then "preview" your post and pics by clicking the preview button. if you are happy with it click save and you are done.

99 to Life, Thank you. It did not take any special tools for this one just a welder and my 4 1/2 grinder with a slitter wheel. Just a lot of figuring. The 48 fender slopes downwark towards the headlight ring and the 55 brow is flatter. That is the reason for the slices in the fenders. Then on the larger slices I sheared strips to weld in. I am doing my headlights on my panel like I did on the 54. Custom buckets with the adjusters in the fender well and weld the ring to the fenders for that smooth look. I used the hagan buckets and too much money for what you get.

Carribean Blue 72, glad 99 to Life could walk you through that, because I would have had a hard time telling you how. I would love to see what you are building and love looking at peoples build threads. Feel free to ask me any questions. I would be glad to help you.

I was referring to the pipe bender, bead roller, plasma, 220+ welder and the list goes on. I just snagged a cheap break. I'm still building my tool collection ( I know is never ending) but I don't have lots of basics. You gotta work with what you go though.

Henry , I will post some pictures of my arsenal of tools tomorrow night. Most of them I made and some I bought. I started years ago with none too and worked my way up to what I have now. Good deal on the break. I have done my fair share of working with what I had.

oldman3, I have done my fair share of useing what I have. My other buddy has a 4 foot slip roll and my work has a 8 foot brake. The rest I have. My boss bought the brake because he knew I was looking for one. It saved me the $1800. It has made more hot rod parts than work stuff.HAHA

AUSSIE54, WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY! Haha. no, really me to. I think I will be all right because everything go off the headlight trim. Plus I can measure off from the other side. I will see come Sunday. That is when I am going to do the other one. That way I can stay on it and not break it up between nights.


Tonight I will get some pictures of my metal working arsonal. Then I am going to gap the drivers door. That way I can turn it around and do the other door and then the next headlight brow. I have to finish welding the firewall in and I have to shear some pieces so that I can remove the seam down the middle of the hood. Need I do not know what is next.

All right here is the requested tool arsenal pictures. The first is my 5 ft sheet metal brake I made probably 15 years ago and stuffed behind it is my horizontal band saw. Next is my mill drill and drill press. The next one is my roll cage bender I made at the shop I work at now and chop saw. The little thing on it with the rollers is to roll 1" box tube. You can put an arch on it. The next one is My MIG and my plasma cutter. I would be lost without both of them. The next one is my bead roller and the TIG welder and my air compressor.
