Great ideas! The only one I've done so far is adding a sway bar. This can be done for less than $50, with a sway bar and brackets from the junkyard, and new bushings

One of the best $50 mods I did was switching to a one wire alternator. No more messing with a voltage regulator.

I got a SS 18 gallon boat tank and mounted it in my bed temporarily because the in-cab tank was full of nasty. Paid $10 for it.

i keep hearing about the one wire.. whats the difference between the one wire and the three wire.. aside from the obvious. lol i got rid of my regulator as well

Hmm..

My alternator is a "3" wire I assume (has 3 wires comming off). But only 1 wire goes anywhere?!!? lol

I got a lower alternator bracket to hide my alt down low and get a better angle for the belt(no more belt squeal).


Then I noticed when the motor was running the alt was moving back and forth a lot.The brackets themselves are kinda thin and there are only two bolts that mount the whole assembly to the block.A brace at the pivot point of the alt bracket would solve the movement problem.While in my shed looking for a piece of metal to bend into shape,I spied a wrench that looked to be about the right length.In the vise it went..BFH and some heat,little grinding and Viola!!


Now my alt is completely still while the motor is running and it looks cool too!Hows that for a budget mod

You want some super bright dash lights for cheap and no leds? I'm cheap so what I did was took my cluster apart and everything that was pale green I painted white. Next after I re-assembled the cluster I replaced the standard 194 bulbs with 921 bulbs. They fit perfect into the light sockets but are much bigger. Cost less than $10.

problem with those bulbs maybe that they also produce equally more heat as light. So be sure not to burn the back of your guages...lot of plastic in there.

Been running them for years with no problems so far, but if cash is not the issue you can run the LED's.

Just went and bought the new bulbs , Thanks.

Going to change these out paint the needles and paint the face another color as well.

I repainted the needles on mine with a small can of fluorescent orange spray paint. Instead of trying to remove the needles and figure a way to stand them up for paint I cut a slit in a piece of paper and slid it under the needles. Been two years and they're still bright.

I made front shock extenders so I could run stock shocks on the truck after I lowered it. Stainless steel.
Used grade 8 bolts. They have been on the truck several years.
Cost was for 2 grade 8 bolts. $10.00 maybe.

Some where in the forum i saw wire mesh put under the opening in front of the windshield to prevent debris collecting in there.I bet it cost less than 50 to do.Does any body know how the mesh was held in place?

I love the wrench trick, I have a small trurn buckle on my ps set-up I hooked to the back to adjust the angle.

So far my best mod is in progress, the Tahoe's in the late 90's have a platic box under the hood with a lid on hinges. It is labeled storage for anything I guess. Quart of oil, tools, whatever so I took one from the junk yard and just repainted it and am getting ready to mount it under the hood to put in an extra quart of oil, some ps fluid and brake fluid.

Not really anything special, but taking a piece of rubber hose and capping it off with a spent 38 special cartridge case makes good vacuum plugs.

This one was meant to be temporary, but after 10+ years it kind of became permanent.

That's cool....I've always used golf tees on the smaller vacuum lines
