I have a new one from LMC it is not as heavy at the old one I have laying around but the fit is great. If your old one is fixable I would keep it much better gate in the long run.

Re: new tailgates are they as good as oem?

A buddy of mine has ordered doors from LMC before, and they didn't line up at all and were a little flimsy. But a tailgate might be a different story. I'm sure somebody that has ordered one before will chime in in a minute.

Re: new tailgates are they as good as oem?

I guess I would ask yourself how nice is the rest of the truck. Is it a daily driver that is used for a truck and gets a fair share of good old fashion hard work? Or is it a very clean only driven on weekend, all original sheet metal, no rust anywhere (except for rockers of course) truck that you cherish more than anything? It maybe something in the middle too.

The LMC gate quality is not there and don't ever think of sitting on it or loading it with any amount of weight. I know they take a ton of work to get lined up.

My advise is go with a $300.00 clean GM gate. The price will go up or down depending on how clean it is.

At 220lbs I have bowed the aftermarket gates standing on them. OEM gate will easily hold 2x that.

Re: new tailgates are they as good as oem?

Great advise..Thanks to you all..... Yea the original is very strong and not rusted out just banged up on the exterior... Maybe I could just replace the outside sheetmetal? Like a replacement skin?

I can sit or stand on my OEM one fine, aftermarket ones will bend if you do that

It's a roll of the dice, I guess. My repop didn't fit for crap. Fix the real deal or buy a different one and fix it.

This is not a new problem and these aftermarket gates have been on the market for over a decade. You would think the manufactures would get there you know what together and fix this problem. Sales have got to be low.

They have. The first reproduction tailgates that have given all reproduction tailgates a bad rap didn't have the inner and outer spit welded together like the OEMs and they bent real easy. They now are and are built of the same gauge as OEM. I know this is true for Tri-Plus. I don't know what LMC sells. I'd only buy a part from them that no one else sells.

I know you guys are talking fleetside tailgates,... but I think the stepside tailgates that Mar-K sells,... are nicer than oem stepside tail gates.
I've seen a NOS and Mar-K.
Mar-K is much superior.

That's good to hear. Maybe they have started making them better after all.

I used a new tri plus gate w/letters. It is strong, and fit extremely well.
