project rust in peace

ok i joined the forum 2 years ago and have not been very good about posting. to start this is a 69 c-10 step side, this truck belonged to a dear freind who was involved in a auto accident about 15 years ago, that left him in a wheel chair(broken neck). i am his best freind and always will be. he some how held on to this old truck throughout his condition, even after his marriage failed. about 2 years ago he told me that the truck needed to be moved because the city sent a notice to him about it not having valid registration, and would be considered an abandoned vehicle if it was not liscensed. so i bought the truck from him, the only thing he asked of me is that when i get it done was to strap him in and take him for a ride. so here are some pics of the truck as it was when i got it from him.

sandblasting isn't costing me any $$. he has alreay blasted everything else and we both are curious.... if i get another cab i can always cut that one up for patch panels. or make a shrine to the rust gods......

If you get another cab, just use it instead. Patch work, esp on something as wasted as your existing cab is alot of work. Not saying it can't be done, but you should go the path of least resistance. Not to mention if it is already that far gone, any patch work will be compromised by the existing rust behind the scenes, so to speak. Rust has a way of comming back even if you attempt to fix it.

Nice looking '68 tho. Keep is posted with the progress.

the floor and the roof on this cab is perfect. most of the cabs that i have looked at the floors are gone, so if i get one of them i will cut the floor out of mine and use it in the new one... it is actually a 69 but my buddy put the 68 dog house on it when we were in high school (20yrs ago)

Re: project rust in peace

pull the roof skin off and see if it is perfect bet you will find rust there as well a very over looked part of the cab just my 2 cents. Go with another cab that cancer will be hard to cure

Wow, that truck is gonna need a lot of rust repair! I can't think of any better motivation to get it done though. That was a pretty touching story.

Thumbs up Re: project rust in peace

been off of here for a while, but i got another cab with not near the problems mine had. try to post some pics later. hauled the donor truck home friday. dad asked me did it run, i said didn't know. so he went and put a battery in it and it started right and ran good. so we drove it around the yard a few times then put it in the garage and started taking it apart. and to think i caught this on it way to the crusher. dumb luck i guess.
