Re: 67c10 build

I'm sure some of you know all this too well but my painter hasn't touched my truck. Everytime we talk he says next week he'll get started on it. Well it's mid December and he said it'd be done first of the year. At this point it is what it is I guess bit I really need it back no later then February. The one cool thing is he doesn't mind if I work on it up there.

So I bought a set of inners and 3 of the probably 12 holes actually lined up, what a pain. All that was in stock was a driver so I've gotta wait on the passenger. It's in now and looks good. I'm on the fence about painting them or powder coating them.

Re: 67c10 build

Once in they do fit really good. And nothing beats a nice brand new set of inners

Scott... I feel your pain with the body shop/ painter... I dealt with the same crap and lies from the shop that worked on Class Act... they were suppose to only be 30 days on what they were doing for me but it took them close to 6 months... 5 of those months the truck basically set untouched... Try and be patient... Maybe the wait will be worth it...

Re: 67c10 build

Back to more reproduction problems... Since the day I bought my tailgate trim I was nervous to put it on since it was clips. I decided screw it if I mess it up it can be fixed. I laid everything out and got it marked up. The center piece above the handle went on first and when I went to put the sides one they were a 1/4" too long and stuck past the tailgate. Not know how I could cut them nicely without applying heat and ruining the clear anodizing I decided to buy a nos set. They show a little shelf wear but are much shinier and more crisp on the bends then the re pops. I'd prefer to use the re pops at this point so everything would be uniform but I think these will have to do.

Here was my problem when I aligned the end of the trim with the edge of the tailgate.

Thanks dan. My problem is I stressed to the painter the importance on getting it back fairly quickly. I want to sell my house next summer or spring with intent my truck is 100% completed. My goal date to have the truck done is Memorial Day. Everything on my end to get the truck together is about ready so I really hope he follows through. I guess it may also be a good thing it hasn't been touched because I still haven't been able to lock down a color. Here's my latest thought... Crappy pic it was a screen shot off YouTube

Love that color! It's what Wifey thinks I should put on mine. Hope your painter pulls through. Can't wait to see this bad boy in color!

Re: 67c10 build

What color do you think it is? To me it doesn't look like anything on the color chart that year. Closest thing would be saddle I think

Re: 67c10 build

My driver's side inner was way off compared to my passenger side. Both were new. I had to completely move both mounting holes in the inner fender... the ones that bolt to the underside of the fender. So maybe your passenger side will fit better like mine did.
I was always told that the key to getting them to fit is to start all of the bolts and then gradually tighten. There may be a little truth to that but mine were just too far off.
I had mine powdercoated but when I got them back one had several dings in the top. I couldn't live with that so I fixed the dings and painted the engine sides and was extremely happy with the way they look painted body color.

Re: 67c10 build

I at first thought that color to be the 68 anniversary color, but may be a little lighter. Either way, that would be stunning.

So finally work has been started. Just a few hours of mud work and pulled a few dents. The latest work is end of January... I'll try to get pics as progress happens

Paint prison sucks....never again for me. I prefer to just go slow and do it myself now. I hope they take care of you. I dig the gold and white color combo too.

I hope you right about the passenger inner. I'm in the same boat with powder coat vs paint. The biggest pain is having to get them blasted then take to powdercoat. With my schedule it's a pain so I may just do a little body work on them an paint them.

Me too! I've really gotta get serious about getting some things done now. I need to buy bed wood and all the strips so I'll be able to get the bed done completely

I can honestly say I'll never do a restoration again unless I'm able to paint it myself. Once I move and get a shop is like to try practicing. Next build will just be a nice original driver

Re: 67c10 build

Some more mud work got done. I pulled the whole front clip off today to get a better alignment. I also put on new hood hinges and got most all gaps dialed in about 3/16"

The body guy is pretty happy with the metal. Says it shouldn't need a whole lot of work so hopefully they can prime and block it soon.

Looks good! How do you like your car dollies? I've got some cheapies from Greg Smith Equipment and they don't roll real well with my truck on it.

There his but I also think there cheaper ones. I think from harbor freight but they seem to work pretty well.
