Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

thanks guys, the fittings are blue because they're aluminum...these are AN style fittings, and in airplane world
blue=aluminum
black= steel
stainless= stainless
so the auto world copied this, but you can get aluminum fittings in black, blue, or ive even seen them in red in the auto world...

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

Another nice project! Hey, where do you find all these late model engines? Do you have a connection with a yard? You mind hooking a fellow Oklahoma member up? I am in the market for a 5.3/4l60e with or without dbw pedal. I have found many just not one in my price range yet. Keep up the Strong skills!

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

no connections with any yards, i keep my eye out on CL, and when i need one 'now' schram auto is my recommendation.

Yes, I watch local CL pretty hard too. I just missed one this past weekend. I will get one eventually. I would really like to find one in a rollover that hear run first.

It looks like you understand the harness pretty good to re-do all that like you do.
Do you send off the computers to have them reprogrammed? If so, who are you using? What did you do about the A/C compressor?

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

the computers are tuned by my tuner guy, glen, in OKC.... he does all my tuning and my brothers too.... he's very knowledgable on these LS base engines... im gonna use a vintage air magnum gen4 system, with the stock A/C compressor, in the stock position.....i use adaptor blocks from docsblocks.com, to connect my compressor to my A/C lines...

Do you know if Glen will do a "plug and play" harness and tune? You have an idea of cost? Thanks, keep up the good work!

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

here are a few pics of the new location of the air tank....its a simple bolt on thing, useing 2 staps i made from 3/16 thick by 3" wide steel plate.... also i had to take 1.25" out of the air tank mounts... the tank hung down little too low for my liking.... ill have to get pics of the compressor mounting tomorrow..

Is that a hitch that hides behind the plate or just below the plate/bumper? I guess it looks like it will be below the bumper.....

its ECE hidden hitch, it hides under the plate... comes with a bracket that flips the plate up/down to reveal the receiver..

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

got a little body work done on big red this weekend.....made the 'half moon' piece for the pass. side firewall, to make it symetrical with the driver side.. then welded in on.. next i put down some rust inhibitor, seam sealer, then a couple coats of black paint, to make it uniformed...after that i made some \1 1/4" metal strips, so i could cap the rain gutter.....welded in the strips, and ground down the welds...still need to fill in some holes in the firewall, for misc. things im not gonna use... but here are the progress pics

Re: project BIG RED (gen3 on air)

Good looking build, I just started on mine and headed in some similar directions. I love the Gen3 motors. I have used them in all of my rockcrawlers. I saw some jeeps in the corner in a couple of the pics. I've been into jeeps for about 8yrs and just sold this one to start on my '69
