Debating on bigger DOT tire for no-prep race

I am sure some of you have seen the new ET Street R tire. They have a 32X17.50-15LT which ironically is basically the same as their ET Drag 32.0/14.0-15ST. Both are made of the M5 compound which has seemed to be the choice of guys running 10.5w.

Tire-------------------------------Measure Wheel – Section – Tread – Cir
ET Drag 32.0/14.0-15ST ----14 ------------------- 17.1 ------ 14.2 --- 100
ET ST R 32X17.50-15LT ---- 14 ------------------- 17.9 ------ 14.4 --- 101

I spoke to MT yesterday and they said unlike the old ET Street, the new ET Street R is 95% as stiff as a stiff side wall slick.

I am thinking about putting this on the truck to run a no prep race at the beginning of October. It retains DOT. Any thoughts?

Will your weight bias change how that tire works now that you put the sheetmetal back on? You were talking about doing that, did you?

Dan, what sheet metal are you talking about? The tailgate? It is not on but I will likely take it with me.

I thought you were still driving hood-less and front bumper-less too.

Re: Debating on bigger DOT tire for no-prep race

Well I bit the bullet. But Summit screwed up and sent me a non matching pair. 99 1/2" roll out on one, 100 3/4" on the other. They shipped fro 2 separate warehouses. In route to me is a 100 1/2" and 100 3/4". I went ahead and mounted the 100 3/4" I got in the first delivery just to make sure it fit. Expecting the other two next week, then I can get it back on the ground.

When I order the 14" wheel, I will move it towards the outside 1".

27% more total width on the ground, not including the additional 6 3/4" roll out. I would say there is a fair amount of added contact patch.

Re: Debating on bigger DOT tire for no-prep race

That tire may work for me as well. I don't like the idea of a no prep race as a decent street would be safer in my opinion! I have had trucks that would dead hook on the street and spin like heck on a track.
