70 burb, roll on project - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey there, my name is Anthony and I have a 70 suburban. 350/turbo 350
Picked it up a few months ago as a project for the winter for a unique utility vehicle/ hot rod.

Long tube headers, elderbrock intake/carb and some other goodies. Picked it up for 1200 and haven't looked back. I have a one car garage and decided spraying wasn't feasible, have decided to roll on a paint job instead.

I will post updates as the project moves forward. I have yet to buff as I am in between sanding and applying more rustoleum.

I will be finishing the front soon in order to buff and I will paint the top white with the grey body. The roll on paint is allot of work but very worth it.
Gf got me a new windshield, sister a new steering wheel. I picked up a new foam dash and grill. Man, there's only one way to eat an elephant.

One bite at a time, I look forward to contributing to these boards.

Lets say I wanted to drop// o lets says a easy 2 inches. How could I do it cheap/ but not jenky...?

1200 looks like a steal there....nice find. I'd say save up for a real paint job ...but looks like you already started...keep us posted. All the best.

Looks like a good start!!! The best way to drop the front approx 2" is to cut a coil (with a cutoff wheel not with heat) do not heat them. The rear you need drop springs.

With me only having a one car garage/ my own spray was not an option. I did get some quotes and they ranged from 3-7k, lol no thanks. Here is my $200 paint job that will do. Plus it'd be nice to prove a point that's it's all about prep/patience over product and money
Last coat!!! Getting ready to sand tomorrow-do a little touch up and buff this weekend

Sorry here for the blurry pics/ I was a little tipsy The guy in link above is obviously a pro bodyman. Im just a mickey mouse amature, but am very satisfied with the results. The quotes for the paint on this truck started @ 3k and went as high as 7 LOL.
This is my picture after a light wet sand/ buff. I have some orange peel I need to still get out. Really trying to get everything painted before the actual wet-sand/buffing. This was just to see what to expect as a final color/finish
First pic was of the final coat/ un sanded-unbuffed. The sand/buff makes it impossible to belive it was a roll on paint job.

Porter cable polisher, pretty much the benchmark for the detailing industry. Been around for a LOONG time. There are other types of machines to use out there, I went with the $50 option from harbor freight. In all honesty that is really all that a DIY guy that is going to need/ Spend your money on good product such as meguiars, and 2 good lakecounty pads. You want one for cutting into paint- and one for polishing. Expect about $120 for pads/polisher/products for cutting-polishing.

I am thinking about trying it! I want to get my 4th door to match the rest of the truck, and paint below the belt white!
