First track outing

Thought I would post the vid of my first track passes with the truck.

Lowest boost (9 psi), 17* timing, launch off foot brake.

Thanks. It did OK for shakedown passes.

Here is the 4-link during the build. Track bar wasn't in yet, but you get the idea. I need to take some more pictures!

I watched your one other vid of the start up and walk around.....very nice

Thanks everyone!

I am very happy with the shakedown runs. No drama.

Now to turn up the boost, and leave on the transbrake!

1st pass no helmet..... crazy!

I liked it when the tech guy got a clue about no roll bar LOL.
Very cool hot rod you have. I love the way the truck lays out. Perfect ride height!

How does a trans break work with boost?
Is it putting a load on the engine enough to build the desired boost or any at all?

Re: First track outing

Cool deal..

What were the 60's?
Are you going to run a 2-step with the brake for spool?

Re: First track outing

T-brake should let me build boost at the line, and yes, I am going to use a 2-step too.

60's started at 2.2ish, 3rd pass was a 1.8, not too bad for a starting point.

Hoping to get 1.4 or 1.5 when really trying.

Is the 6.0 bone stock?
LQ4 I am guessing for the lower compression?
Truck manifolds turned backwards?

I have a 91mm for my 73 Camaro. I have often thought about putting it in my truck until the Camaro is ready, but I have a 2 stage bottle for the truck that I haven't really played with yet.

Re: First track outing

truck looks GREAT just the way it sits, i love the look. Isn`t a 91mm a little big? What does the truck weigh?

Re: First track outing

Thanks everyone.

The 6.0 is stock crank, forged rods & pistons. 10.0:1 compression. Yes, higher than most, but it is what I wanted so it was peppy out of boost. I am running E85, so that helps out in that department.

Manifolds are custom fab'd stepped stainless steel process piping. Very thick-walled stuff.

91mm might be big for some people's taste, but I am very happy with it. VERY fast spool with the higher compression, and I don't have to wring the piss out of it to make power. I know it is different from the norm, and some people can't stand that. I am not insinuating that is what you meant, but some people bash the crap of me because my "setup" isn't ideal (compared to what they have read on the internet)!

Thanks again everyone. I am so happy to be at this point after 3 years. Now for a new fuel pump (A1000 took a dump on me), new plugs, & boost controller action.

Re: First track outing

I ask so i can learn, I`m very open minded to seeing different options. I`m getting all the stuff together to do a 6.0 in a regal with a Master Power 74. A real "no buck" put together, basically old stuff left over from jobs at my shop. Most of the stuff came out of a 2000 S10 blazer, it had made about 530 to the wheels, ran mid 11`s. He later went low 10`s with a 88 and a really, really good motor.
Sorry to jack your tread

Forgot to answer one question, it weighed 3,620 without me. Heavier than I hoped, but I can still start stripping stuff out!

Thanks for the kind words.

Re: First track outing

My 72 monte is about 3970 with me in it. Steel headed BBC, power steering, factory interior. I`ve had the car forever, I don`t want to cut it up more then the little bit that I`ve already done. I would love to put my spare motor in something lighter to try to compete with some 3000 lb cars.
I was hoping to hear a C10 could be get down to low 3000.

If you were willing to go fiber hood & fenders, pull bumpers, etc. I think you could.

Heck, my steel wheels are heavy, and I could pull almost 70-80lbs by just going with lightweight alloys.
