Strange week and a half
Week ago Friday the birds alerted me to a raccoon in a tree. I hadn't seen one the first 17 years. Bear with me, it gets better.
Next day I drove my mother to South Lake Tahoe to pick up my "other mother" who's here from Germany. We walked up the driveway and there's an apple tree in front of me, I'm thinking of grabbing one, when a foot to my left I'm face to face with mamma bear. Her cub was in another tree. - I turned around like it never happened and escorted my mother back to the car "get in the car, bear", "why are we going back to the car" "bear", "where?". If you'd have told me the bear was a statue I'd have believed it. We didn't meet eyes for long. Next day or two I catch a BRIGHT light in the sky at a dinner party. We didn't know what we're looking at, all kinds of speculation. Amazing what Musk has put together, sign of the future I guess. Just think, 20-30 years from now we'll have shuttles into space. Today: My parents (step dad) are losing it fast. The Lt. Col. has a thing about sprinkler systems. Long story short his system was winter ready. He managed to shut it off right. Anyway, yesterday he spent the entire day into the night ensuring it was off. Today I found the shut-off and all the sprinkler boxes under water. It's probably wet under the house as well. They had already called a plumber, and I washed my hands of it. I couldn't even find the shutoff valve. This is a new low, he seems to be losing it much faster now. I was leaving Costco when a nutcase flew into the parking lot. The guy burned rubber with every start and stop. I turned my truck around see what's up. He was walking toward the store when I stopped in front of him. He made a spastic gesture, looked away, and then yells at me for not using my turn signal. I yell F off, and he walks into the store yelling something. I asked the nearest employee if he saw him flying in as well, he says yes but "nothing they can do about it". I feel some shame I didn't report him to someone competent. The guy needs a work-up. He wasn't packing. If he was I may have found new use of my C-20. I delivered some parts for zinc plating and stopped at a Casino for super. Just as soon as I entered the place I hear commotion, see chairs flying. A security officer tackled an idiot running from him. Me and another guy seemed prepared to help, but the security officer made a simple task of a bigger guy. I think he stole someone's players card. Geeeeeez, spaceships and a public I know longer recognize. I must be getting old

Man, it sounds weird out there. I thought Iowa was getting bad but it doesn't hold a candle to your stories. Small towns have their advantages..... LockDoc

I could use a small town, and can see it happen. This was one, but we look more like California every day.

The stop light quit working here, and it was a week before anybody reported it.

Re: Strange week and a half
The area I grew up in is way less exciting than where I am now, and it's not the greathere. Your stop light thing davis reminded me of something I have told my wife. Her home town is big. It has 2 traffic lights, while my home town-ish (western PA), had 4 stop signs, of which only 2 work. She gives me that wife look, like what are you talking about. I said "2 got run over in the winter when I was a teenager (1970) and they have never been fix." No one paid attention anyways, we knew when to stop and when someone wasn't able. Town of a 130 folks, you kinda know everything. BTW, the same signs are lying on the ground still almost 50 years later. I know it's the same ones because of stuff some kids wrote on them in paint.

Re: Strange week and a half
Actually I was BS'ing you guys.
When I was a kid I rode my bicycle in the highway with no problem. It used to be pretty quite here. I could get on my motorcycle after work, pull down to the main highway and not worry about traffic. Now your taking your life in your hands pulling out on to the highway. People have found this place and are retiring here, plus the tourist traffic. The main north/south corridor, highway 65, for central Arkansas, and the main east/west corridor for north Arkansas intersect here. During tourist season it's pretty congested here, and in the off season it gets pretty congested here. A relative is here today from California and he commented on the traffic here.
