Pinion angle question

I have a 72 c10 with a ford rear end. The pads are not welded to the axel tube. I need to weld the pads on but I'm not sure what to set the pinion angle to.

My plan was to set the truck to ride height (air bags) and align the pinion with the drive line. Next I was going to tack weld the pads on before removing for finish welding.

Does this sound reasonable?

Thx
Dennis

Re: Pinion angle question

One piece drive shaft? You want the output of your trans to be parallel with your input on the rear end.

For example, if your trans is pointing down 3 degrees then you want your rear end pointed up 3 degrees.

It is a one piece drive shaft.

I did read that it should be parallel to the transmission to minimize vibration but had forgotten about that. While reading is good it is no substitute for experience so thank you for your input.
