mounting computer in cab????

I was wondering if its OK to mount a computer above the heater box in my 76, will it be to hot sitting there, is there a reason they are mounted outside the cab from factory??

Re: mounting computer in cab????

You can mount it there, it shouldn't be any hotter than the engine compartment in the summer.

I think the factory mounts them under the hood just for convenience. The hardest part about mounting it inside the cab is getting the wiring harness through the firewall, it takes a good size hole, then you need to figure out how to seal it up when your done.

Re: mounting computer in cab????

I kept mine underhood, but in front towards the venting in the core support/inner fender. I was hoping that might keep it a bit cooler, and I had space there. There isn't a ton of room under the dash, especially if you have a good amount of after market wiring or things like stereos etc.

I put mine under the hood using the factory mount.

Re: mounting computer in cab????

Mine is under the hood, might get moved in the future. What stopped me from going under the dash was not knowing where I would have space when I get aftermarket AC.

Re: mounting computer in cab????

I've got a custom center console so I mounted mine inside of that and the harness comes up though a hole in the transmission tunnel. Seems to work good and its sealed with a rubber boot.
