1972 Suburban custom 10 Lower ball joint question?

I have the moog K6117t lower ball joint and it is not the right one. Are suburban ball joints different. This is the model advance list for this vehicle. It has the 5 bolt wheels and 1 1/4" wide brake rotors.

Thanks

Re: 1972 Suburban custom 10 Lower ball joint question?

Has anybody ran into this issue with 1972 c10 suburban 2 wd. I ordered ball joints for a half ton. Did not fit. Apparently some 1972 suburbans had 3/4 ton upper and lower a - arms with a spindle that has the 5 bolt pattern on it.

Re: 1972 Suburban custom 10 Lower ball joint question?

One that is on left was pressed out it is a 3/4 ton ball joint, the other is a 1/2 ton ball joint. My suburban is a 1972 C10 with the 5 bolt pattern and 1 1/4" wide disc brakes. I was running into dead ends on ways to drop it. A call to Early Classics clarified what the problem was - Some of the 1972 Models of the c10 suburban had 3/4 ton upper and lower a-arms and 5 bolt wheel pattern. That is where the confusion started with my particular suburban. Early Classics has a drop spindle "C-20 ¾ to ½ Ton Conversion 2½" Drop Spindles" that should solve the problem. I'm going to get their drop spindles and use air bags.

I looked up the number and came up with the same one Advanced did.

3/4 ton arms in a 1/2 ton? Who knew?

Air ride tech. front bags. This is their C10 cool ride. I was going to switch everything to half ton, but decided to use the 3/4 ton drop spindle.

Nice burb.
Truthfully, I have never seen a 3/4 ton arm on a 1/2 ton burb, truck, or blazer.
Not sure what's going on there.

What I had read about this was that 9 passenger suburbans (3 rows of seats) had the upgraded C20 front suspensions.

Does the 3/4 ton spindle allow you to still use 5 bolt brake rotors ?

Never mind I re read you post. Using a 3/4 to 1/2 ton conversion spindle

Re: 1972 Suburban custom 10 Lower ball joint question?

This suburban does have 3 rows of seats. The A - arms are 3/4 ton upper and lowers, but it has the 5 on 5 rotors. I have a set off d j m 3 inch drop lower a - arms , when I went to install them, thats when I noticed the ball joint difference. Took a while to figure out. I thought of changing the upper ball joint to 1/2 ton ( they will fit in 3/4 ton a - arm) and using the d j m a arms on the bottom with 1/2 ton spindles. The problem ( I think ) will be the steering components will need to be changed also. Thanks for the post about the 3 seats being the difference. It took about 6 hours of internet and phone to figure out the 3/4 ton arm difference. I used the model number from the glove box to make sure it was a 10 or half ton, then checked the plate at the drivers door. I'm not near the suburban now, but I think it list the GVW at 6,600 LBs. ?

Tag in glove box list 1A8010 CENTER AND REAR SEAT. This may be the only indication that it has the 3/4 ton front suspension.

Re: 1972 Suburban custom 10 Lower ball joint question?

I ran into the same issue today; ordered Moog upper and lower ball joints from 2 different suppliers for a 72 2 wd suburban. ,both wrong . we guessed 3/4 ton might fit but they arent here as yet. very frustrating . Will post update if they fit. suburban was a low optioned . must have been special ordered with C20 a arms but there is no indication on the SPID

I bet the 3/4 ton upper and lower will work. Do you have the 5 bolt wheels?

Disc front / drums back.

Re: 1972 Suburban custom 10 Lower ball joint question?

got into many other things that have created a delayed response , but the 3/4 ton ball joints are in fact the ones I needed. I don't have three seats on the spid so don't know how else we should have known. Although several "old time" mechanics have offered that they had run into that confusion on trucks and Suburbans "back in the day "
