Dropmember+5.3 LS

I just picked up a 5.3 truck motor. I am wondering what all I have to do to it to make it work with the dropmember. Here are my issues, but If anyone know any other issues, lmk.

OIl Pan I know I have to swap oil pans, Anyone know which one is the cheapest one. I saw that GMPP sell a conversion pan. Anyone used that?

Pulleys I have the stock truck pulleys. I was told the AC comp is too low and must be removed. True?

Power steering line/adapter What do I use?

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

Do you have the LS engine mounts on your Dropmember?
Which Dropmember version do you have?

I would contact Nate for the correct info.

Yeah I have the mounts. And the version right before the tubalar version. So version 3. On a 62 c10 if that makes a difference

Does your oil pan hang low like the other member said?

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

camaro pan fits like a glove, but the GM swap pan will also clear, just hang about 1" below crossmember (pending you have the GEN 3 mounts, nate makes)
as for the compressor, it'll also clear no problems.

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

the power steering and alt are on the drivers side bracket that i got from kwikperf.com but you could use the stock brackets.i like the way those bracket look and there pretty good on the price.

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

yes youre suppose to line up the back of the block and the oil pan with a straight edge, when installin the pan.and the power steering pumps are pretty much the same from small block to gen3,by that i mean that the hose fiitings with the oring style are pretty much the same 80s up.

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

Hi edflores, go efi and don't look back. I looked at it this way, Gen1= carb, Gen3= efi. If you want it to run great at 40 degrees, sea level as well at 100 degrees at 5,000 feet do efi. As fuels change efi is a natural progression. Most likely everyone here drives a late model something and they run great. Why are we changing these old trucks around? Because we want the old truck to handle, ride, stop, fuel economy, drivability ,etc, like a late model. Expensive? somewhat but well worth it. I was a dealer mechanic, master ase certified, etc, and sold off my carb tools, timing light, and soforth. My specialty was drivability, and electrical work so efi is up my alley. Oh, by chance is your truck on the ECE website as a customer truck? If so i almost bought a 71/72 because of that pic, but decided on a 68. Pm me if you wish for more info as i will get around to pics eventually. Brian F.

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

So edflores, were you able to verify that the GM pan works with the DM? Wanting to order mine until I find out if this is compatible and won't touch the ground when layed out...

If you want to be safe, get the F-body oil pan from 1998-2002. It's not the least expensive.... but it will get you the most clearance, and you won't have to worry about it fitting!

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

I know, I know.... lol I'm being a cheap a$$, but hate to spend $300 on an OIL PAN .

Just trying to cut costs where I can, if doable. Been trying to find a deal on an F-Body pan... so far, not so good!

Re: Dropmember+5.3 LS

Looking over this thread as I was wondering about doing the same things... Any resolve?

Did you have to change AC bracket? Did the GM pan fit?

I know the fbody pan is the best fit, however i have a hard time spending as much on the pan, pickup etc as I will on the motor lol.

5.3 the GM oil Pan and the relocation bracket for the AC should be all that is needed to make it work (other than computer/wiring harness) for a dropmembered truck correct?

I thought about just finding an fbody 5.7 however most of them do not come with the brackets/accessories.

Gm pan didn't work for me. Its the first thing to hit the ground.
I had to remove ac n
I still don't have it running so that's all the info I have for now
