You guys with static dropped duallies(esp 6/8) inside.

What kits are you running- and where did you purchase your kits?

I am thinking about doing a 6/8.5 kit from western Chassis, but the only place I've seen them so foar is on Sport Truck Direct- and I haven't heard the best of things about them.

I love DJM and McGuaghy's stuff- but I can't find a drop larger than 5/5 with them.

I was considering building my own kit. The WC kit is 3" spindles/3"springs w/a flip for the rear. I was thinking I could do a 3" spindle/3"control arm with DJM for 6" up front, but I am not sure if that would work with 16" wheels for now. Then do a flip out back- but their flip only says it is 5"...can't be right IMO. I mean the WC kit doesn't say anything about hangers?

So as you can see- I is confused!LOL So feed me some info guys.

Thanks!

Here's a pic of the 6/8.5 that sport truck direct has for the drop kit....nice.

Re: You guys with static dropped duallies(esp 6/8) inside.

I got mine from Hunters custom in Tn, (www.hunterscustom.com ) I think the owners name is Lynn or Len?. Great guy to deal with and he got everything shipped fast too. I used the WC spindles and flip and cut about 1.5 coils off my stock springs and it rides better than my 02 1500hd. Im not a big fan of lowered control arms especially if you are running a short tire, they will drag a lot. I am using 225-75-16 with the inner fenders pulled and I have yet do bottom the control arm on anything

I am also very interested in this very info, so I'll be following along. I went to Hunter's website, and couldn't find anything on there. Is it something you'd have to call and order from them?

I should also add that I plan to bag the truck in the future(next income tax season). IIRC- you use the spindles with bags in the front...so the spindles would still be utilized right.

cochino12- Didn't you have a build thread for your truck? How much drop did the 1.5 round cut make for your stock coils? Your rear is a flip kit only? no hangers or shackles? Thanks again. Also did you have any issues getting it aligned after cutting the springs?

Do not combine DJM's "drop pocket design" 3" lower control arms with drop spindles.
You will have severe scrubline issues.
(The a-arm pocket will be very close to the ground)

This is the info I was looking for- I dropped my ole 92 RCSB Sily using DJM's arme/springs- i loved them- but I thought combining them with spindles might be too much.

Yes you would still be using the spindles with bags, might as well save a few $$ and just cut the stock coils since they will be coming out soon anyway.

I got about 3" cutting the coils, and yes the rear is just a flip no shackles or hangers. The only problems with the allignment were finding a shop with a rack big enough to fit the truck.

Re: You guys with static dropped duallies(esp 6/8) inside.

I ordered my drop kit from Ken at Hunter's today! Paid 290 for spindles and 129 for the rear flip kit(Western Chassis) plus shipping(about 80 bucks). He actually had the spindles on the shelf, and the rear kit is going to be drop shipped straight from W/C. I am going to cut the front springs to finish the front. I didn't order the notches either because, frankly, the W/C notch doesn't look like it offers much more room, and I plan to bag it next year. So I have a friend that has a custom fab and welding business- he is going to do my rear super notch.

Thanks for the info cochino! Saved me a good deal of headache.LOL Can't wait to get this big b**ch on the ground!

Re: You guys with static dropped duallies(esp 6/8) inside.

When I first dropped mine I used belltech spindels and djm lower arms but i put a 29" diameter wheel and tire combo back on so I never had an issue with the spring pockets scrubbing, the back was a flip and notch. Here are a few shots.

the last 2 pictures the back is sitting up because I had my helper bag filled with the bike being in the back.

The issue with spindles and arms is with a smaller rim i.e. 16s on a dually, If you blow a tire or have a flat, the arms will drag the ground. Scary situation running 70mph. You dont want any part of your frame lower then the bottom of your wheels.

i guess my only real question would be.. what drop springs are yall using.. I have found 2.5" drop spindles.. but I cant find drops springs for a C30 to get the extra 3" not really wanting to cut springs if I dont have to..

Re: You guys with static dropped duallies(esp 6/8) inside.

Western Chassis offers drop springs for these trucks. They seem to sell "kits" as opposed to individual parts, but I'm sure they'd sell you some of their 3" springs if you called. I'm in the middle of deciding the best route to the floor on my regular cab '76 GMC dually as well. Life is easier for you with a regular bed though haha. Methinks my flatbed necessitates some minor tubbing.

Re: You guys with static dropped duallies(esp 6/8) inside.

As far as I could find, they only make 3" spindles for 1-tons.

Why are you hesitant about cutting the current coils? 1-coil off get's you where you want to be & is a common method when lowering. As far as drop coils go, the springs are the same OD as the 1/2 ton trucks but have a higher rate. The problem w/most aftermarket drop springs is they don't provide the spring rate info. They just market them as 1, 2, or 3" 'drop'.
