HELP! Installing door glass...

Well I have come to the conclusion that I don't quite understand the correct order to install the door glass. ( door weatherstrip, belt weatherstrip, vent glass, door glass. Is there a certain order in which to install them???

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

This is the order that I use: Window to door seal, (leave rear extension loose), window regulator, window, vent window assembly, window fuzzies.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

How does the vent window go in after the door glass? Seems that there is not any room to sneek it in behind that metal bracket made on the door.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

Because you need the room to get the glass in, before the vent window goes in. It's a puzzle.....

It took a lot of patience and a lot of tries to get it in on mine as well. I had to lower and raise the main glass several times before I got it in the right position. Just take your time and it will eventually fall together!

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

I just spent half a day trying to get one door together and I am literally back where I started and about to light the truck on fire and walk away. Can anyone recommend a video tutorial on how to do this?

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

The vent frame/window can go in before the window.
If I remember correct, insert the window at an angle, tilted down towards the door handle and slide it in.
It will be real tight going in, but it clears just enough. Helps to have two people working it.

Vent frame/felt
Vent frame/window installed
Door window weatherstrip
Rear glass guide/channel into the door but don’t bolt it in place yet.
Door glass
everything else

There are a couple of different thoughts on this but here is how I assemble mine.

Make sure you have the new felt window channel in the wing window. But do not install the felt channel around the top and down inside the rear of the door yet.

Insert the rear glass guide/channel into the door but don’t bolt it in place yet.

Install the door latch remote and window riser mechanisms if they have been removed.. (make sure the roller is in the track on the inside of the door)

Install the window. (you have to slide it toward the front to get it started into the roller guides) After you have the window installed roll it down, and slide it back toward the door latch. (make sure it doesn’t slide out of the track)

Insert the wing window lower bracket into the window opening from the inside of the door, about where the window and wing window meet. After it is inside the door rotate the wing window to it’s correct orentation and slide it down into place.

Put the three (I think) small flat head screws through the angled part of the door frame and into the wing window, then put the two ¼” machine screws through the bottom holes in the door inner panel and into the bottom bracket of the wing window.

Now slide the door window forward into the wing window channel.

Put the door window felt channel into the door frame starting at the top of the wing window and work your way around to the back. Be sure and push up on the felt channel as you go around the corner. Do not put it into the inside of the door yet.

Put the rear glass guide/channel up into place and put the ¼” machine screw in at the top by the door latch but do not tighten it up.

Insert the felt window channel down inside the door and press it into the remainder of the door frame and rear glass guide/channel. Push the rear glass guide/channel in against the window glass and put the two ¼” machine screws through the bottom holes in the door inner panel into the bottom bracket of the glass guide/channel. Now tighten all of the machine screws up and try the window to see how it works.

I hope I haven’t forgotten any steps in the process and if I have I hope someone points them out.

I've been digging through threads on the matter and every one I've found so far says the vent window goes in last, after the door glass. Not before. You say you had success doing it the in the opposite order?

I would love to see someone put together a video tutorial on reassembly. I dread reassembling mine after paint.

Yeah I keep scratching the fresh paint with the spring on the bottom of the vent window. It's making me INSANE!

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

Yep. If I remember right, the window slides in from the 'outside' of the frame. Meaning, on the outside of the door.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

Sounds like my problem may be that I have the rear felt-lined channel screwed in place before I install the glass. If I remove the screws and slide that channel back along with the glass, it should allow room for the installation of the vent window. Does that sound correct?

Thanks for the info guys. Going to head to bed and give it another shot in the morning. Wouldn't be surprised if I have nightmares tonight about this.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

Hold the phone! I am wrong. The vent window goes in second. But goes in from the outside of the window frame.
Listen to Leon I just went back into my build and noticed pictures.

then came...

I could have swore it was the other way around.
One thing is for certain, they are a PITA.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

Gravity always fights me doing door glass. For me I can do them in about 15 minutes if I remove the door laying flat on exterior side down on my saw horses on padding. With blue paint tape on the exterior lip to prevent scratches. But when I do them upright installed it takes me considerably longer. Sometimes even a couple of hours.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

The secret I found when doing mine was to take the back channel screws out before I installed the vent window so the door glass can slide back to give you more room for the vent window to go in. Also use lots of tape to protect the paint and take your time messing with everything and eventually it all falls into place.

Yup, just went through this. Not actually very hard. If it is, then somethings may be wrong. Vent window was more difficult.

Is amazing how easy it is once someone tells you the order! Got each of 'em done in maybe 10 minutes. Easy breezy. Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

This video shows how to remove the wing and window. Then they upgrade to one piece glass and reassemble. Perhaps the video will help you. The windows starts around 9:30 mark of the video.

Re: HELP! Installing door glass...

So now that that's done, one more question… Are the scrapers supposed to be cut down or put in at full length? The ones I got from LMC overlap the vent window maybe an inch or two. Wondering if they're supposed to be shorter so they don't overlap. Anyone know?
