Re: How to make suburban quarters
I have to do this exact fix. Thanks for the great idea how to fix it. I cant seem to find the bottom piece you used, or the tail light ass. Every one I find is for a lwb and wouldnt that be to short?

Re: How to make suburban quarters
I'm going to move this thread to the burb build section, since it has great info that builders of burbs could benefit from.
Awesome metal work by the way!

Re: How to make suburban quarters
I really love checking out ebfabman metal work threads. And I think its cool he does this all with mig. So many people say you gotta have a tig to do this kind of work. He has proven them wrong over and over.

Re: How to make suburban quarters
Do you use the opposite side for the door skin?

Re: How to make suburban quarters
Wes at classic heartbeat should be able help with the panels. Wildstreak, I used a right and a left door skin. That way the more of the panel could be used. There is the door handle area to consider

Re: How to make suburban quarters
Thanks EB,
Was there a reason that you used two panels? The damage looked like one wouldve been enough to cover the area. I have similar damage, and need the lower 1/4 as well, did you just go the width of the lower 1/4 just to match? I would like to stay away from the marker lamp if possible.

Re: How to make suburban quarters
Eb, I have a question....instead of using a door skin, can you use an extra door and cut it up? Curious if there would be any issues in doing it this way???

Re: How to make suburban quarters
DBear, I see no reason why you couldn't use what ever is available as long as you have good material to use. I go through my scrap pile all the time. Call it recycle. Make us green..hehe..

Re: How to make suburban quarters
i know this thread is pretty old....but it is still inspiring for me. I had a question EB.... what kind of wheel or pad/ and grit do you use for finishing? The finished product looks so clean and shiny. Thanks again.

Looks like he might have used a grinder with 60 or 80 grit on the first two pictures and maybe 100 or 120 on the last ones. You just have to take it slow and not press too hard to keep it cool. You don't want to get it too warm and warp it... LockDoc

Re: How to make suburban quarters
That's some stellar work, I've purchases the patch panels for my panel quite some time ago. Just waiting on the welder fund to get bigger so I can start.

Re: How to make suburban quarters
Glad I saw this post I can quit explaining how to do this in emails and direct people to this post instead. Also guys for repairs forward of the rear wheels on the drivers side you can do the same thing except use outer rockers 1-2 needed depending how much you need to repair with the top section cut off at the door opening body line to use for the lower section of the repair to get the correct lower body curve with the lip needed to attach the inner quarter panel and then weld the door skin section on to get it higher up the same as what was shown in the rear by Ebfabman
