Seventy Faux GMC

I have a 1980 c15 I am turning into a 74. I bought a 74 base model guage bezel and I have a 73-74 chevy grille on it and I think thats what got me going on this. I need a 73-78 hood, 73-75 doors, ditch the fuel doors (thats 79+) and maybe something else i forgot.

the day i got it home. starter solenoid died after i got gas, didnt even get it home yet.

lowered it on christmas. 73-78 light bezels and rubbed off the purple hue. it was that purplegreenblue pearlecent paint

cut down a front bumper for the rear. and messing with other junk

as it sit now, 73-74 chevy grille (will soon be replaced with a gmc) and a bit lower. bumper guards too, those are fun

Looking good man, love that stance!

Gotta admit, the 73/74 trucks are my favorites. That grille is just sexy. Push bumpers look great on there too!

Re: Seventy Faux GMC

Looks good, Cory. Just a thought- I would keep the fuel doors. Having had a few pre-79 trucks, they are a complete PITA to put gas in, especially with the vapor nozzles we have here. I would keep them. The fuel neck is actually larger.

Re: Seventy Faux GMC

So I've got a dumb guestion what's the difference in the doors between years? I've had a '74 and a '87. I know the door panels are different and some other things but what makes'em different? Good looking truck by the way. How much did you lower it and what did you do to get it to that height? Thanks.

Re: Seventy Faux GMC

2 cut coils, flip kit drop shackles and removed 2 small leafs, its about a 5/9 from what it was stock. the only difference is the panel. my cab it from oshawa ontario, the 74 doors i put on are from freemont california. the 74 doors are 3/16" longer so i am fighting to get them to work, got the 74 grille on, i need to update the pictures tomorrow

Re: Seventy Faux GMC

Nice truck.

If you re-locate the gas tank, I would love to buy your stock fuel filler necks and fuel filler hoses. They are impossible to find now for stepsides. I rigged something up for the driver side tank, but still don't have the passenger side.

The raised area for the door panels is completely different. 73-76 doors do not have any provisions for power windows or locks. The newer doors do, and the door panel is larger to cover the mounting areas for these.

Re: Seventy Faux GMC

first things first, patch the passenger door and roof. the door looks like it was hit with a axe a couple times. a tree or something fell on the roof

Re: Seventy Faux GMC

im toying around with the idea of making fiber glass inner wheel wells. i rub at this height. i would have to do that before going lower and get headers that dont hang down so far. i drag them over most speed bumps unless i am crawling over them
