Re: Help with odd hole in rear end

Thank you fro all the replys You all know how it goes,,,i was just going to replace the wood bed. Now I have the rear end out drive shaft coils and brake line plumbing. I'm going to scrap repaint the frame, new 4 inch lowering coils. Replace the bearing in the drive line and bushings in the arms. Then on to the front with a 2 1/2 in drop spindles disk brake conversion and all new front end rebuild.

Interesting? I have a 1969 and it was suppose to be all original?? Of course that was from the owner trying to sell his truck.

Re: Help with odd hole in rear end

It may be, I looked at the 65 info page for HA (stamp on yours) and found it. There may be a HA in the next gen years also. Yep see - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=578793

Thanks for the info...I do see a HA in the 1969 section. Didn't really matter as who knows what is original to this truck after all these years

Re: Help with odd hole in rear end

They were pretty crude about making those plug welds. Whether air or contaminants got to the puddle during cooling often caused a blister at the top of the molten puddle. I've seen some of these leak gear lube, a quick fix is to use a die grinder with a roto-file bit and clean it up. Give it a shot of brake clean, blow it dry and fill the dimple with JB Weld...You should see the welds on some of the Corporate axles, pretty crude with lots of spatter...

Thanks for the advice Before i hit it with a coat of K2 primer i'll throw some JB-weld on the hole. After cleaning a little more i see the same on the other side , but with out the hole.
