Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
I'm a older guy myself, but there are some reasonably new artists I like that still sound recognizably country. Listen to Chris Stapleton sometime. BTW, Google already knows my CD purchase preferences, so its all good

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
My wife and I had this discussion in the car a few days ago. We were listening to a local station and they were playing some current crap. She was reaching for the knob and David Allen Coe came on.
We laughed and waited till he was finished to change channels. I am a fan of pretty much everybody mentioned including Gene Watson, and Gary Stewart. I heard Gary on the radio yesterday.

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
Many of us agree what they are playing these days is not country. It's more of a mix between several genres and many of us older guys do not care for it. I turned on to country in the 70's so you know who I enjoyed. The Oak Ridge boys, Waylon, Willie, George, Gene, Kris, Johnny, Merle, Mickey, Mel, and the Alabama Wild Man Jerry Reed. That was good music back then.
Younguns seem to like Stapleman. I don't. That's what they made the mute button for.

And there's another missing. I'll give you a test and see if you can guess who from this song quote. "You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey" None other than old George Jones.[/quote] nope. David Allen Coe also. He has some real good music to listen to while driving. Some of it is only fit for a sailor's bar room

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
Oh I see David was the first to record it but it was George who made it a hit and was the only one I've heard sing it.

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
Although I agree 100% with the "older" gents mentioned, I'm surprised no Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynett, Patty Loveless, Pam Tillis and many other female singers.
I'll also add Johnny Horton, Charlie Pride, Lefty Frizzel, Bob Willis, Flatts and Scrubbs, Jim Reeves, Eddy Arnold, Chet Atkins and perhaps the best person to play any stringed instrument, Roy Clark. Many, many others from the 40's through the 80's and quite a few from the 90's. Calling what is played today "country" I can't say what I want to, I would probably get banned. And hands down, no if's, and's or but's about it, Hank, Sr. is the BEST. Keep in mind he died at the ripe old age of 29 years old. Imagine if he'd lived another 40 or 50 years!

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
I was thinking about female singers too. I started thinking about it and decided not to even go there, as there are more good ones than I care to type.

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
I like Charlie Rich. Two songs are represented by my small country collection. They remind me of my former step-dad's 72 Cadillac, which he let me drive during my adolescence. Rich was always in the cassette when I drove that car. Just felt right.

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
That's a good question lol, especially since Waylon is my favorite. I've been meaning to get Waylon's logo as a decal for my rear window. I can't pick a favorite song of his, Ramblin' Man is up there. And Good Hearted Woman, and Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys with Willie Nelson is also a really good one. Man he really has a lot of good ones!

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
John Anderson, one of my favorites, down to Earth regular guy who could belt out a soulful Ballard as good as anyone I know. Seminole Wind one my favorites, I'm not in to sad songs but "I just came home to count the memories" has a special place in my music library, cause that was me in '96 to a tee.

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
This isn't country but if you truely love music for the quality of the instrument i DARE you to look up "chapman stick" on youtube! The first quere result should be "while my guitar gently weeps" by robert culbertson. Listen to it through a nice stereo and the depth of what this man plays is almost unbelievable. You don't buy sheet music for this instrument. Only met one person that new what a chapman stick was. Good luck and will be watching for feedback!!

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
I don't listen to a lot of country these days, but it was all my dad would allow within his earshot when we was kids. Funny thing is, just like with the rock & roll, it was the blues covers and the bluesier side of it that I really liked.
Remember kids: The Blues is the Root-everything else is the Fruit. I really like Chris Knight: https://youtu.be/aStPpOw3PZ4 (this one is special to me. Dad's family fled the Dust Bowl in '35 when he was 12) https://youtu.be/YVXI4l_JU5Q And Lucinda Williams: https://youtu.be/urOyfRJkKTc https://youtu.be/artjAo-AJxo (she wrote this one BTW)

Re: Who is you favorite country music artist?
Curious what people think of Zac Brown Band. I CAN'T STAND the new music they try pass off as country. Like was said above, it's pop music singing about tractors. Myself as a 46 year old, I love Waylon, Merle, Hank Jr, Johnny, and the like. For new stuff, I think Jamey Johnson kicks ass I do like Chris Stapleton, and as far as ZBB, I think they're a mix of country and rock and I love them.

the highwaymen, together or separate, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Don Gibson, Hank Williams, Roy Clark, Patsy Cline, Jerry Lee Lewis, and a couple hundred other "favorites", mostly all from the '70s or before.
