Sam I remember being your age and doing crazy crap like lying in the snow and changing tranny's and other stuff in the snow and sub freezin temps.

I now will claim my adopted (forced upon me really) southernness and like msgross, am glad I deal with the cold of 65ish

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

Bill -

c'mon. you KNOW you miss the feeling of having a wrench stick to your hand. i've pulled the whole, "change a head gasket in 25 below weather in an unheated garage". it's..umm...not pleasant. who knew that Sorel boots and carhart bibs were standard mechanic shop wear? haha

Roger -

you raise a valid point. haha, but it's still part of the total i need to pay. i'll end up subtracting it from the grand total when i do that figuring though.

haha, get it. GRAND total?!? oh man, i crack myself up sometimes...

-ahem-. okee. i'm good. .

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

Well, spent some mre time freezin' in the garage today.

i worked on finishing up getting the inner fenders bolted on. still a few more to fight with getting lined up, but all in all thats about done.

i also pulled my rims/tires, and put the old girl on jack stands. tomorrow i'm getting the new tires mounted, so she has some decent tread. i also took advantage of the rims being off, by wire wheeling them down a bit, and hitting them with some white rustoleum, just to brighten and clean them up a bit. it may not be proper, but it'll look better than before. haha.

tomorrow, i hope to get some more done, since i don't have class. which means...maybe the rest of the front clip and front bumper getting thrown on. and tires. yup. tires are good. lol.

it's almost there guys!

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

well. i got the inner fenders FINALLY bolted on. i am done with that nonsense i say!

i also slapped my front bumper on.

it doesn't look too incredibly bad, considering the major dent..crease..whatever...was in it. lol. the paint..is decent. it works. haha.

and, since it was once again really cold...

about...6 degrees. without windchill. yup.

and yup. carhart insulated bibs. a big furry hat. standard garage attire.

oh! i also got my tires mounted. i won't get into that story..but..i have tires. and thats all that matters. lol

maybe this weekend i can get the hood and cowl on. and take 'er down the road finally! wooO!

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

okee doke then.

got my wheels back on the ol' girl this morning. they don't look half bad, even with my rustoleum cover-up. lol.

and then i couldn't resist, i had to slap the hubcaps on.

so, here's some pics! of course.

yeah. Ol' Diamond Lil isn't much of a hot rod. she's more of a stock rod.

Let's hear it!

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

alright, well.

i didn't drive 'er to the wedding. and, i'm not even in the slightest disappointed in that. a major snow storm will do that to a person. haha.

but after recovering this morning, i proceeded to get some more bolted on the old girl.

such as the cowl and antenna and all along there.

then had dad help me get the hood on, and after a quick adjustment, she lines up pretty good.

sooo...time for pics.

and, just for some comparison...

before:

and...after.

yup. she doesn't look too bad, eh? better than before, haha.

so, needless to say. she's not perfect. she's not a show winner. but. she is better than before. and she is mine.

so i couldn't be happier about it.

let's hear it!

-Sam.

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

thanks guys!
Clemson -

she still needs some more bolted on. i have to wire my HEI proper with butt connectors, and move it a notch, so i can advance it some more. also need to play with the heater, and get that working better, and bolt the rear bumper on.

Bill -

don't worry, i plan on cutting them off flush with the bed side at an angle. haha. yeah, they're pretty goony just hangin' out there. .

thanks again guys!

i'm pretty happy with how she turned out.

....just in case you missed that. haha.

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

Mike -

thanks! and yeah..pipes are pretty, well, out there. haha...i love being literal. .

67 C30 -

you have NO idea. haha. well, i'm sure you do. . unfortunately, my funds ran a bit short, so i have to wait til my check from the newspaper i write for arrives. by then i should have everything mostly done, and off to the DMV!

my dad and i did go for a ride in it last night. and, since he's helped me so much, and put up with my antics, of course i let him drive. that, along with the fact that our road is what some would call "snow covered and slippery". but, needless to say, she went straight. well, when he let 'er. lol. went about a mile, spun around (yes. spun. no reverse. lol) and came on back. it's the same trip we made when i brought 'er home and wanted Dad to see what he thought of the old girl. so, it was quite fitting. .

alright, i gotta get to school.

til next time, keep it between the lines!

-Sam.

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

sam...
Your truck turned out really good. It really has a classic look to it with the white roof and white wheels. Did you notice any difference with how your truck runs with the HEI? I went to my local junkyard saturday and got a HEI for my truck then i went to the parts store and got a new cap, rotor, and plug wires for it. Now i just need to get it all on the truck.

Re: '69 GMC Build Thread.

Luke -

thanks!

Jott -

thanks! i wanted it to be fairly stock looking, especially since it's not the "cool" thing to do. lol.

and yes, i definitely noticed a difference with HEI. before, we would bring up the RPMS, and rev it a bit, and you tell it would start to sputter and just kinda puke out at the higher R's, since the points were floating. now, no such problem. just very clean and crisp. we still have to advance it a bit, since right now it's about at 0. so, with that, it should help even more. i'm not sure if it made a difference as far as ease in starting, but ti was about 15 degrees today, and the truck sat outside last night. i got home from school, and figured i'd listen to the ol' girl. press the accelerator to set the choke, bump the key, and vroom. was running.

so. personally. i'd say it was one of the better, and least expensive, improvements i could've made. points are familiar and all, but...sometimes technology wins out. but hey, atleast it doesn't have a computer. .

thanks again guys!
