Fuel Check Valve

If I have a SBC Carbureted with a mechanical fuel pump I shouldn't need a fuel check valve right? The fuel pump acts as a check valve if it's working properly?

Re: Fuel Check Valve

Fuel pump should have two check valves. One on the inlet, one on the outlet.
You don’t need another one.

Re: Fuel Check Valve

Thank you for verifying that. I have a friend who installed a check valve (plastic) thinks he needs a check valve as he's loosing fuel (according to him) and it starts right up now that he has a check valve. I told him he has a fuel pump problem, but what do I know?

Interesting stuff...this site pointed me to some youtube pages that eventually got me to mechanical fuel pump innards...

The inlet valve in the pump will go 'the other way' if the pressure exceeds a certain threshold so as to prevent fluid lock. According to my new youtube education anyways LOL
