good evening, i am looking for some input on wiring my compressor for my garage. i currently have a 220 outlet for my lincoln powermig 200.

the plug on the welder is what i have heard called a 50 amp plug. center round terminal with to more terminals parralell to eachother.

my compressor has a different plug on it with a straight center terminal and 2 more straight terminals that are parralell to eachother but angled. similar to what a household dryer plug is.
also believe this to be called a 30 amp plug?

what i am looking for is to know if i can just replace the end plug on the compressor to match the welder outlet on the wall or would/should i wire in an outlet just for the compressor?

Change the plug on the compressor.

how many amps are on the current circuit breaker? If you want to leave both hooked up (and possibly run both at once) then you need to add another wall plug right? if the total amps will go over your circuit breaker then you need to run a dedicated line to your breaker box. If you plan on plugging and unplugging every time then put a new end on your compressor, just wire it correctly...

i thank you both for the responce. i was fairly sure that i could just replace the compressor plug and be fine but when it comes to electricity i go no further than i am comfortable doing.

i swapped out the plug for a 50 amp to match my welder outlet and fired it right up.

i do not plan on running both at the same time due to not wanting to hook up another outlet just for the compressor.

i really appreciate the help.

You could jump the new outlet right off the old one... three wires, (1 ground and 2 hot)

i used two outlets with a knife switch between them// so both were always plugged in but could only use one at a time and i'd just throw the switch to wich one i needed. it worked well that way no confusion or strain on the small electric service i had to work with
