Re: Project Murphy's Law

Just curious about the Fast EFI. Have you driven it yet?
It may be a little early, but would you recomend it!
I've been wanting one and just can't bite the bullet. I would like to hear your opinions.

Thanks

John

Re: Project Murphy's Law

Well so for things I like about the fast ez efi are : start up/ idle when cold and throttle response. the quadrajet I had would want to idle at 1900 rpm when cold for a few miles. This starts right up, idles at 800-900 rpm.
Things I dont like: gas smell stinks up the garage to the point my wife wants it parked outside. I think this is due to the pressurized return line, and the fancy hoses the fuel kit comes with ( I swear I can smell fuel through them)
No idea on mileage yet but ( go ahead and call me a Liar) 15.5mpg with the quadrajet combined city/highway driving with an egg on the gas pedal. guessing not much better ( was hoping for 20 +) will know more next week when I fill up again.

I called and talked to a FAST tech this morning, said he has no idea why I would be smelling gas if there was not a leak, think I would have seen a spray or a puddle or something at 43 lbs of fuel pressure, just sayin. As far as the milage goes he said the computer is still learning and it will take more than 1 tank of gas. I remain hopeful. Looks like it's time to hook up a vapor canister. Good thing I never striped all the stock crap off the back end where all the emisions stuff is.

15mpg is great number for a quadra flushed 454. 20 would be awsome!

Re: Project Murphy's Law

New rubber on all the ECC stuff, new 5/16 line from the tank to the BBC and a 91 454 chevy 1500 charcole canister solved the old stink in the garage. Talked some more to FAST and started leaning out the idle air fuel ratio and the cruise air fuel ratio. Guessing 17-18 mpg now just off the fuel gauge, I'll know more at the next fill up in 2 weeks. Now for a cold air intake and a aluminum radiator before it gets hot Also need to pull the top and think about a tonneau for the cab area to keep the sun from baking my new seats hides when it sits 13 hours outside while I'm at work.

What can I tell you? picked it up at autozone for 50.00 3 lines to hook up,1. from ECC line in the back all the way to where canister mounts next to the battery, 2. line to the air cleaner to burn off the fumes, 3. down between the inner fender and frame for a purge just incase it is ever to fill with gasoline. All my original metal and rubber lines were there so that helped, just replaced old cracked rubber with new fuel injection rubber lines. (you wouldn't believe the nasty old varnish in them) If your looking to do a Blazer tank on a truck: see bruces super clean build thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...318544&page=13 ,
For an original blazer see diagram below

Re: Project Murphy's Law

Its been awhile! Still eating the elephant.........Back with progress and pics. Got the new goodmark 67 front fenders on. I got them with the blazer when I bought it 6 years ago. Nice not to have them taking up space in my garage. They lined up better than expected. I then sent it out to the body man to fill the trim /mirror holes and taigate handle. New floor pans and rockers as well. Couldnt see filling the rear markers and not getting rid of the filler neck. Need to do the camaro tank upgrade soon, so for now I cut the filler neck right above where it comes through the bed floor, flipped it to inside the bed and bridged it back together with a piece of gas hose. Cheap temporary fix. Next projects: fat mat, vinyl floor covering, door seals camaro tank and painting door panals. Getting there, slow but sure.

Re: Project Murphy's Law

The primer was a bonus, I just wanted the metal work done. thats how it was when I picked it up( wish he put in primer sealer tinted blue!) still have the wheels and fenders languishing in my garage. These 2wd are getting easier to find in this economy. get one!

Re: Project Murphy's Law

instead of doing fat mat and vinyl floor why not have the floor shot with spray in bedliner ?? i bed the price would be about the same and you could just wash out the floor if it got dirty and never worry about rust again !! just an idea, looking good by the way !!
