Help - Pictures of torsion bars???? Please!!!!

Help - I need pictures of a set of stock torsion bars that are out of the vehicle, laying on the ground side by side. I believe mine are twisted and want to confirm that they should be the same side to side and not twisted in a left/right orientation like i'm dealing with.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can see how low the adjusters are in this picture, and thats with 2 1/2" drop spindles.

Re: Help - Pictures of torsion bars???? Please!!!!

I have torsion bars as well, but they are installed. I do not have dropped spindles, and my key bolts appear to sit quite a bit lower than those in your photo. I do have the front suspension "sagged" so to speak, so that is why mine sit so low. Mine are easily the closest item to the ground under my truck.

Yes thata why i think mine are twisted. The shouldn't sit this low with the drop spindles.

When I put mine on the ground side by side they are twisted in a left and right fashion. I wouldn't think they would be a left and right torsion bar.

I need pictures of some good ones just laying on the ground...

Re: Help - Pictures of torsion bars???? Please!!!!

I looked at my 62 C20 hardware. There is a LH and RH torsion bar. Mine has "878" and an arrow pointing CW cast into the RH side (end near the key). The LH side has "877" and a CCW arrow cast into it. By eyeball measurement, it looks like the "flats" on each end of the bar are aligned.

Wow this is great info. My issue is my flats are not aligned at all and I need to find a set that is...

I'd either talk with Aspen parts in AZ or place a WTB add in the parts for sale section. I don't think they're available new.

It appears with all the people telling me I should have swapped out for a coil spring cross member, there would be plenty laying around...

Ill check out your source.

I need to know if mine are messed up before that happens, that's the who point of this thread, to confirm mine are good or bad.

Re: Help - Pictures of torsion bars???? Please!!!!

Maybe a stupid question.... is your main concern with how low the adjuster bolts hang, or are you having a ride issue?

Its a very long story that put me where I am, asking for pictures, but its a driveway angle issue. It rides good, the 22" hit the flange at the top of the wheel well over dips and good bumps.

When I got the truck, the shocks were fully compressed and it rode like crap.

I went through the front end new shaft ball joints, steering, added PS, drop spindles, disks. went to take off jack stands (didn't put shocks back in) truck laid out the cross member on the driveway. Tires crammed against the top of the wheel wells (I guess the shocks were the bump stops...).

Tried rotating torsion but couldn't get ball joint back on - I was screwed. No way to change ride height. So I pulled both bars. They were twisted about a half a turn on each side in a left and right fashion. I swapped them side to side and this is where I am. From your pictures and judging by the center of the dust cap, Im riding higher that you were when you put the spindles on (before adjusting), but my adjusters are lower.

My thoughts are, since every other part and system on this truck was hacked and half assed by the PO, it wouldn't surprise me if the dude use a torch and heated up the torsions to lower it. I just got lucky that i could swap side to side and get it driveable.

I just need pictures of the ends of a good set laying side by side and that will answer my questions.

Thanks, but I need picture of just the bars, sitting on a flat surface side by side, then close ups of the ends side by side.

Bars long gone, Al at Tuckers in LV has/had. You might give them a call. Tom might have some stashed.
