Ball joints?

Are all ball joints the same?
I have a 68 with manual drum brakes, so I picked up the what I believe to be all the parts from a 71 to put disk brakes on it. I would like to replace all the ball joints as I'm putting it in. Are all 67-72 ball joints the same?

Also, where can i get a clutch plate cover for my fire wall?

Re: Ball joints?

The ball joints are different between the years. In your case, you would want to get 71-72 ball joints to work with the 71 disc brake spindle you have.

Edit:
Forgot to mention, lolife99 has posted some great info on disc brake swaps, ball joints & tie-rods. The links are in his signature, and I have copied and pasted out of his the ball joint info for you. I definitely recommend reading through the remainder he has posted. All good information!

Hope he doesn't mind me copying his links here.

Re: Ball joints?

Your outer tie rods will be different as well.
That opens up a whole different can of worms unless you have all of the 71-72 steering linkage.

Re: Ball joints?

This is why I recommend 63-70 conversion spindles.

Re: Ball joints?

I have the inter and outer tie rods. Is that all I need?

This is what I have.
Bracket for fire wall.
Power booster
Master cylinder
Spindles
Routers
Brake calipers

I will buy '71 ball joints and brake lines.

I tought I had everything. Maybe you need to brake it down elementary for me.

It already has power steering. I didn't want to get into any of that.

Re: Ball joints?

You will need the 71-72 centerlink also.
As far as I know,... no one sells this new, so you will have to find a used one.
It's all spelled out in the link Pro Performance posted.
