Nope, first year I've gone. The wife and I just moved down here about two years ago and finally I'm getting into the truck science down here. We stayed until about 6. What shop do you work for?

I had no idea. You sir, do what I have always wanted to do. I unfortunately never had a chance to get into it professionally, or even learn on a professional level.

What do you do for them?

I have not yet, no. But hopefully will in the near future. It's a couple hours north of me so not super convenient.

Re: Tripp's Speed Shop Build

Been a little bit. Have been saving for parts! I ordered some metal for my rear notch today. Been trying to decide how Im going to do my bridge but Im sure I will figure it out when I get to it. I really like the "floating notch" 67Cheby did on his so I may steal his idea. Ill be ordering a 4-link in the next couple weeks as well. Have decided to order some patch panels for the cab and do some body work on that while I save for suspension part. I knew what I wanted when I decided to drop the truck but man its getting expensive!

Cool...one of these days work might settle down to where I get a day or weekend off so I can pick them up. I'm on 11 hours already today and going back at it after a snack break....

Re: Tripp's Speed Shop Build

Well I suppose its time for a small update.

Havent done anything drastic as of late. Been saving for parts. While saving for parts decided I wanted to up my air compressor so I went on good old CL and found a nice Rand 4000 made by Ingersoll-Rand.

This was of course a set back on parts money because I then had to spend about $500 to wire a dedicated sub panel in my garage for 220v because I did not have any existing. Although it was a small set back its nice because I can put the plugs anywhere I feel necessary.

I also received my Thorbeck Bros rear notch. I would have like to go with the Porterbuilt rear but but feel I have a little more creativity room with just the notch. Since I received the pieces I decided it is a good time to start tearing apart and prepping the rear of the frame for install.

Boy, these were a PAIN to get out. Ive read many a build and always thought... "well it cant be that hard to cut the head off and bang em out". Well, it can.

I also ended up having to cut the old heat treated rear springs as they were so rusted and worn they would not break free,

From here I figured since Im working on the rear Might as well tear this old beat up bed apart and figure out what I can actually repair/ use off it.

Youll notice here the Driver side bed side is pretty tore up. I could probably repair it but I feel it is not worth the effort at this point.

All apart. The Bed itself is a little worn in. Still deciding if I want to try and use this.

From here the next update should be fitting and welding the notch. Looking into buying a tubing bender for the sole purpose of the rear notch and bridge. Doing that will just set me back on parts so we shall see.

Re: Tripp's Speed Shop Build

Good progress on the chassis and bed disassembly. I totally remember how hard it was to get those rivets out on my cross member. I ended up buying a cheap Harbor freight air hammer. It worked pretty good but it still took a bfh to break them loose. I think they were red hot when they put them together. Like they form to the hole....
Keep the pictures coming.

Yea I thought about picking up an air hammer but I'm so hard headed about things sometime I couldn't bring myself to do it. You're probably right about those rivits being red hot when they put them together...

Good start on the truck. Looks to be some decent metal you have. That goes a long ways and takes a minority of frustration out of the process!!

Re: Tripp's Speed Shop Build

You still have both beds? Did you decide which you're going with?
One thing I've had to do is buy a lot of special tools for this truck. I try and do everything myself also, within reason. Plus it's good learning experience.

Looking good man. You'll make PT2018 no sweat.

Re: Tripp's Speed Shop Build

Not yet. I'm leaning toward the fleetside but it's going to cost me more money to do that. I've spent 1-2k on tools for this truck. Well I use them for other things but the original use was for the truck.

I do the same thing. Try and do it myself. Paint is going to be a different story thought.

PT2018 ftw!!
