I finally got one!!!!!

Bought a 1 owner 68 swb chevy. Minus motor and trans has all chrome and 2 new fenders. Very very little rust, most will go away with the new fenders. I have a 400hp 383 with a th400 ready to go in. I have a 82 GMC to do the disc brake conversion but I need to do a lil more research first. I'll have some pics later this week

You can swap the axles from a 70-72 truck. I think the 73-87's have different lengths on the axles. There are several companies offering swap kits, or you can search local, I was lucky enough to find someone selling the axles from a 72 and they fit perfect. I believe speedway motors sells replacement axles as well. Just count your splines on the axle and check the length.

Here is a swap kit that has a fair price IMHO: http://www.performanceonline.com/197...XLE-KIT-5-LUG/

ohh and nice truck btw, I'm building a 68 as well!

1971-72 axle shafts will not work in a 68. 68 has narrower axle. The 71-72 axles will go in and appear to work but they will be riding on the wrong spot on the bearing surface and the shoes will only ride on about half the drum. Fastcars you may want to check yours a little more closely. Unless yours has already been updated to a 1970 axle. 1970 is the only axle that you can swap the 5 bolt 71-72 axle shafts into.

Re: I finally got one!!!!!

Nice looking truck, you know there is a member on here that has a TON of stuff that is on the yonder side of Paragould. He gave me a tour of his place and it would blow a normals mind. If you are indeed missing that trim on the bed I bet he has it. American Pickup. I have no tie in with him except we are both member and nice guys. In danger of any rule I don't know about I won't post a phone number but will give it if you PM me. Jim
