1966 diff options to change from 8 stud to 5.

Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased a chev truck and I am new to them. I have a 66 c10 with the heavy duty suspension option, this included the big rear diff with the 8 stud. I am after a conversion option whether its a change in diff or if I can change the axels some how. what width ford 9 inch diffs have people installed and what vehicle did they get it from to convert to 5 stud, as wheel and brake options are easier to come by.

I am located in Western Australia and I am an apprentice auto sparky, so finding other c10s to look at for inspiration are not easily found. I am Also looking to raise the bed floor to accommodate to the air bags being lowered. I am looking into c notching and drop spindle options also. any photos and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Jayden.

Welcome to the board. Start with the FAQ section and do some reading. What you have if it is 8 lug is a C20. Post some pictures of what you have and we can help you along.

Re: 1966 diff options to change from 8 stud to 5.

thanks for the replies,
I'm after options to change from the 8 stud to 5 stud. is there much difference in the c20 to c10 spindles and brake upgrade options as I can't seem to find any info. also do f100 (9 inch) diffs fit the c20 rear, being in Australia makes my junk yard options limited so ideas on what would fit are appreciated. As far as I know currently the c20 and c10 long beds are almost the same apart from the upgraded suspension, is this true? will most upgrades and mods fit my c20 that are made for a c10? do I need to convert the whole front suspension to c10 arms or will I get away with using the ones I have? my main concern at the moment is finding the best way to convert to 5 stud and disk brakes all round
thanks for the advice.
cheers

Re: 1966 diff options to change from 8 stud to 5.

To change the front suspension over to 5 lug, you will have to change the entire front suspension, crossmember and all. This is easiest with the suspension from a '71-'87 C10 truck, Suburban or 2wd K5 Blazer. That would be a good source for a differential, but it will not have disc brakes. The truck 10/12 bolt can be converted to disc brakes.
