Barbwire Customs Project#1

We started this Project about 2 years ago and we planned to be finished a year ago. So like all projects this one is lagging behind. Here are some pics of where we started and where we are.

We are going for the shop truck/hot rod theme. These are some of the first pics.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1

Here are some pics of after we had finished most of the inside and also there is a pic of the grill. You can't really see it that well but after we get the lights installed I will get a better pic of the grill. Also yes we are going with red and black interior the carpet, seats and part of the door panels will be red and most everything else will be black. After looking at what few pictures that I have taken I have noticed I need to take some photography lessons. I will try to get some better ones of the inside.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1

Thanks for all the post I really wasn't sure if this would peek any interest.

I really didn't explain much of what we have done to this point but we have put a good bit of work into it so far or alot more than we thought when we purchased the truck. We purchashed the truck with the 350 motor and frame already together. All that we did was replace some springs and install some DJM control arms on the front so that we could get a lower stance. We also coated the frame with POR15, it is messy stuff but it works great! From there we changed the latches on the doors. If you look back at the pictures you'll probably notice that the striker and the latch are swapped from what they came factory so in turn we installed electric door openers and will have fake door handles.

Also Jim was right we installed the No Limit dash and what you can't see under the dash is the vintage air unit that we put in. We want to be able to get in this truck all year around and be comfortable. We also built our own console which will be different from most consoles out there because we wanted to keep the bench seats. We also installed the one piece side windows which we bought from brothers. One of the things that we are pretty excited about is the hood hinges that came from Porterbuilt. We plan to install some gas struts to go along with these hinges from Porterbuilt. One of the things I forgot to mention is the retro auto sound radio that we installed and I will get better pictures of where we installed the remote mountable USB/SD/aux. input for the system. I was really happy with the way that turned out.

Some the other modifications we made were with the bed. First we couldn't find a short bed so we cut down an old long bed we had. Then we removed the gas tank in the back that was mounted in between the frame rails and built another one that is going to sit in front of the bed by the cab on top of the diamond plate floor. We also painted the floor with the UV resistant POR15.

There is so many other modifications we have done that I am probably forgetting about but I will point them out as I we get farther along in this project. I will try to get better pictures so that you all can see what exactley I am talking about.

Thanks for the responses and I hope that this build thread will give others some ideas for their projects.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1

Here are some recent pics after the interior was finished, it is a bit dusty but after some cleaning hopefully it will look show quality. Also the last two pics are of the over flow tank that was picked from an old Subaru. Once we get the bracket painted hopefully it will look like a close to factory piece.

Re: Barbwire Customs Project#1

The gas tank is finished and painted. I will try to get a better picture of it if I can remember. It is a big tank but if you will look at some of the previous pictures we had a tank mounted in the middle of the frame rails on the back of the truck. We decided to scrap that because we wanted to run the exhaust in closer together so that they would come out close to the license plate.

Anyways we have moved the tank into the front of the bed and have some ideas about how to dress it up in the future. Also the idea with this tank is that in the future air ride is a possibility and we are thinking that we can build a tank that looks similar on the outside but hide the air tanks and compressors inside in a separate compartment.

Hey thanks!

The radio does look good and the great thing about it is you get to keep the knobs and the older style. One thing that sold me on it was that it had a port that came with it that you can put a sd card, usb or an aux in. I carry music with me on my phone so I am planning on using the usb if we can ever get the truck to a road worthy state. I will try and get a pic of where we mounted the ports at.
