Hello Everyone

Hi, my name is Jim Aust. I used to work for Sport Truck magazine and built a '68 Short Fleet everyone knew as the "Circus Wagon". Now I work at Rod & Custom Magazine and just picked up a '56 Chevy short bed. I'm going to post a coupe want ads in hopes to locate a few sheet matal Items for my new dream truck. My dad had one whenm I was little, and I've lusted for one ever since. I've has a dozen pickups, but never a '55-'57 style. Thanks Jim

Re: Hello Everyone

Jim, I read your screen name and it brought back fond memories. I remember that truck and the series of articles very well. There is a forum member on here (XXL) that has a truck that reminds me of the Circus Wagon every time I look at it.

Welcome to the forum, and keep us posted on your progress.

Howdy from League City, Texas!
I like that series as well. I decided on that brief version that fell right before that series for my dream ride.
Best of luck!

The Circus Wagon is sadly no more. My friend bought it and his nature of selling cars got the best of him and he sold it. He DEEPLY regrets it. I was saddened further when a couple guys tracked me down at a New York Goodguys event to tell me they bought it. They were so proud that they had totally slicked it out and shaved everything including the driprails and it just made me sick. The DID NOT get the joke of what the Circus Wagon was. It was the ultimate ANTI-Show Truck. It did everything a truck was supposed to, hauled ass (even got 28-mpg with a 400hp big-block) and drew a crowd at any car event. Now the best they could hope for when they trailer it to an event is to take home a $10.00 trophy and get a couple people to notice their work. That truck was driven all over the country and people knew it as the Circus Wagon. I had copied the fun-loving spirit a few hot rodders who had built early beaters with and transferred it to a truck. It wasn't even for sale when my buddy bought it, but with a 3rd baby on the way I knew I need something that could hold 3 car seats. I miss it dearly. I'm glad the memory of it lives on- some magazine projects do not.

Re: Hello Everyone

Jim,

I guess I'm kinda late welcoming (or re-welcoming) you to the board, but I saw another thread of yours and your name instantly brought up fond memories of your old truck. I (along with other members, I'm sure) would really appreciate any info or pics that you might be able to share on your old 68. Namely how in the h@ll did you get 28mpg out of a 400HP BB?

My wife made me clean out my closet full of old mags, dating back to 77, and I looked through all of them for articles and pics of the circus wagon along with other vehicles that stood out in my memory before they got tossed, but apparently they got misplaced somewhere along the way, or maybe they're all saved in one place that I haven't found yet.
