Edelbrock electric choke broken?

600 series carb. Previous owner didn't hae it hooked up. I loosen the screws but it doesn't seem to move the carburetor flap, so nothing happens on a cold star. It's hot but no action. Any advice?

Re: Edelbrock electric choke broken?

Are you holding the throttle open while turning the cap?
Are you turning the cap both directions to test for choke blade movement?

Re: Edelbrock electric choke broken?

the choke blade is always open no movement only by touch. i haven't tried holding the throttle open but someone also suggested taking off the choke plate and check for movement.

Re: Edelbrock electric choke broken?

Can you post a fairly close up photo of each side of the carburetor? The PO may have bent something or added some thing to hold the choke open.

First thing I would do is remove the cap and see if the coil spring is engaging the lever correctly inside the choke housing. If the lever is on the wrong side of the tang on the spring it won't work.

No need to remove the cap unless needed.
Holding the throttle open and turning the cap both ways will tell you right away if the connection inside is good or not.

Yes and that the throttle needs to be held slightly open as well when turning the choke coil housing, otherwise the idle screw holds it in one place.

Food for thought, I had a friend with a 70 camaro, someone put a holley on with electric choke. They simply ran a wire from the coil + (still a points car) to the choke, choke never worked right, would run great cold but never come off the choke, like it was stuck.

It was only getting 6v (resistor wire for voltage to coil).

I ran a new wire from the fuse block to the choke and it worked great with 12v.
