Followed me home

1967 k20 292 4 speed Rockwell 221. Bought it from a lady that lives in NV. Her Dad lived in Wyoming, and was in the middle of restoring it when he passed away. The frame and running gear has been restored as has the engine. There are many new parts that came with it. It was rolled before, so I will have to put another body on it. I sold my 70k10 to get this one. It is an original owner Suburban with three rows of seats. Looking forward to getting started on it.

Even if you can't use the body it has a lot of good useable parts on it. It will make a good rig when finished.

Mine was a '69 (sold it a while back) but I would rather have a '67 or '68. Keep us posted on the progress.....

Thank you, I will. I have a body that's better than this, so I will swap it out, with some hard work! Going to be fun!

Re: Followed me home

Unloaded the heavy parts today out of the Suburban. The tow hooks were under the last transfer case that I removed. Not sure if they are factory? Included is a 4 speed trans,2 Rockwell 221's, and a doubler? What exactly does that do?number not the tow hooks is b280433.

Is it a 4wd? What engine/trans do you have?

This is an old gear splitter from the 1960's, and it still being made today by Advance Adapters. The newer models are an aluminum cased unit.

The Rockwell T-221 is a tough Tcase, they are noisey and like to mark their territory with oil drips. Parts are getting harder to find as time goes by, though you can still get the parts from one or two distributors.

Thank you for the info. I got 2 Rockwells out of the deal and that gear splitter. What would be the advantage to installing the splitter?

Re: Followed me home

The splitter gives you more gears to shift into, so it can be very beneficial when towing.

It's just a miniature of what is in the big rigs.

This 1967 is set up just like my 1968, except mine was ordered with the 327 v8 engine. Your Eaton gear ratio is more than likely .457 like mine, so it is all about low speed power. When it comes to highway speeds, the best mine and yours does is about 65 MPH. Even at 65 MPH the truck is working hard, and you are using more fuel than needed. So, 55 MPH is a good all around speed with out over doing things.
This splitter would give you more gears on the top end, so it's like turning that SM465 into a 6 speed I think.

Re: Followed me home

I will probably just set it up with the original running gear. I live a mile from work and will use my '91 to go longer distances. Is there a market for these "overdrives"?
