My 51 Barn find ?

I don't know if it is considered a barn find if you are the one that put it in there Lol. I found the license plate that was on it when I put it in the barn 81 was the tag. My dad bought it in 1975. He got it to drive while his truck was getting the motor replaced he paid 250.00 for it. After he bought it he told me I could have it when this truck was running again I was 11 then. After that I drove it in high school it then the timing gear broke and it quit running. I was going to put a V8 in it and paint it but in got put in the barn and I started projects and family in the mean time. Now 30 years later its time to do my truck. I have been by a lot of parts so I have started on it. Here are some pic's

Re: My 51 Barn find ?

We bought it in the Tricities when we lived there in the 70's it was rust free then. The westside wasn't that kind on it. The bottoms of the cab corners are now rotted out. but that's about it. After looking on there this truck is really nice. Got it home and started working on it.

Re: My 51 Barn find ?

Last night I notched the frame to clear the steering rack. Put the hubs on and steering column in. I needed to make it a roller again. I needed more room in my shop for a paying job so I can buy more parts for my 51.

Re: My 51 Barn find ?

Today I put the sheet metal back on so it wouldn't take up so much room in my garage. I had everything sand blasted and haven't had time to DP the parts yet. So I just put them back on to get them out of the way. I bought new bed sides, front panel and tailgate so I put the bedsides and front panel on. It looks like a truck again. I wanted to put the Speedway rearend kit I bought in it but didn't have time. So now it sets really high in the rear compared to the front with the 2" dropped spindles.

When my dad bought this truck I thought it was cool. After we got it home he told me I could have it when his truck was running again. I thought it was so cool because I was 11 then. We moved several times over the years and it always moved with us. This truck is what got me started painting but I have never painted it. I striped the old paint jobs off and primed it and I never painted it or got it running again after it quit. Now its time to do it. I with was my Dad was still here to see when its done.
