Motor placement fore / aft

I'm getting ready to put the drivetrain in the truck, 63 GMC.

The PO pancaked the front cross member and moved it 1" forward. Trying to decide on where to put the motor, small block / th400 combo. Move it 1" forward or keep it in the stock location.

Any input is appreciated, I haven't seen to be able to gather much info on this when others have moved the cross member forward.

Have you mocked up the motor/trans yet? In the stock location?

I haven't yet. I don't foresee any issues with it going in the stock location. Just wondering if it should move forward with the cross member for any type of weigh distro concerns.

Re: Motor placement fore / aft

For weight distribution, you want the engine and trans as far back as possible.
