Re: The "UnOfficial Rock-a-Chief" Build Thread....

I figured 6 months later it's time for an update ... not much, but it's something !!

Trucks still sitting in the same place. Since then I had to rob the drivers side tires for my scrap trailer. To my pops, this made my truck look like an eye sore in his building, so ... its time to bring her home.

Scored a deal with my buddy, I installed some coils and spindles in his S-10 Blazer, and he hooked me up with some used, but near new staggered BFG's that he buffed ....
-
-

-

-
-
Of course, one thing leads to another and he informs me "Hey man your really gonna need an 8" rim in the rear, and at least a 7" in the front to get the right 'look' ". He knows his business, worked in the 'business' for like 20 years at local Hot Rod shop ... he can tell you tire/rim sizes from a distance.
-
-
So, on went my search to find some 6-lug 15x8's on the cheap ... found flakes on CL, and no time to hunt at the local yards ...
-
-
Then, all of sudden, one of my buddys on here "SlepySal", comes thru with a lead on some wheels ... puts in a good word ... and I score some for $25 a piece, not too bad !! BUT IT GETS BETTER !!
-
THANKS AGAIN SAL !!!
-
After lowering the Blazer down off the lift that night after lowering ... we realized it was too dang low .... Turns out BELLTECH ship him out 4cyl lowering springs, instead of the V6 springs.
-
-
So I swap out those springs for a second time (which were wrong again, now it too high !! ) ... and he pays the $100 for the steelies ... WIN WIN !!
-
-

-

-
-
Three of them are really clean, while the other one is surface rusty ... I will be blasting all for of them anyway here shortly...
-
-
Hmmm, what am I getting for the third spring change on the Blazer ??

Bartering labor for parts is the way to go !!!

Well, not really progress, but this is the only progress my truck has seen in a while .... better than nothing I guess !!!

Sounds like a deal to me... At least you are still thinking about your truck. I hope to get the tranny down to my house today and hopfully start changing it to a 2wd tranny instead of a 4wd. Then get my truck back to the shop and paint that firewall.

Thats what I was thinking !! Although, he did mention some old style skinny trim rings, and mabey rig up some caps ...

Are you kidding ? I think about that thing everyday ... as I walk by it while it's crying out to me (actually its curseing at me)

On these rallys, I was thinking about fabbing up some rings, to lay in the wheel to cover the slots. Taking some flat plate, and cutting some donuts that cover the area from the center hub to the rim.

Doing this rather than cut small pieces and weld up every single hole ...

I have a circle cutting guide for my plazma, but I have a machinist buddy who might be able to do this for me.

If I can get them to fit tight enough, mabey I could just tap and screw in from the back side ... Color contrast the rings ??

Some idears ...

Re: The "UnOfficial Rock-a-Chief" Build Thread....

Small update ... Picked up my wheels from the coaters (blast only)

He was pretty cheap on the blasting (compared to my time I would spend with my tiny cabinet)....

Although he is kinda being a douche as far as a coat price.

Kinda bugs me considering all the car frames, Vette parts, Truck racks, and other people I have refered to him ... anyway Im over it !!

Spray paint it is !!
-
-

-
-
I'm going to do a little sanding of the lips before paint ... one needs a tiny but of light welding. But they'll come out good.
-
-

OPINIONS NEEDED !!!

I was thinking about going with a White paint Patina finish on the truck .... My plan is to run some skinny rings, chrome lugs on the wheels.

Black on the wheels, or Red like my old truck ?? I'm thinking red on white would look good ??

I think the red wheel on the white truck would look sic, especially with the "patina" paint job truck body on some sharp wheels.

You know I vote for red. But realy, they would look sweet on your truck. What are you going to do with your old rims ?

Re: The "UnOfficial Rock-a-Chief" Build Thread....

It's been a while since my last update , so here goes ....

Been really busy the last few months, and away from reliable computer time.

I managed to get two wheels cleaned up, painted, and mounted:
-
-

-
My buddy hooked me up with 24 lugs:
-

-
...then thru them on:
-

-

-
Of course the front needs to be dropped about a foot !!
-

-

-
Showing the bulge on the 215 65 .... rear is a 235 60 ... 15x8's
-

-
My buddy took these off his S-10 blazer ... temporary for now ...

Later !!

Good to see you're getting a chance to do at least something with the truck.

Anxiously awaiting the rest of the build.

Re: The "UnOfficial Rock-a-Chief" Build Thread....

The PowerGlide was pulled out a Loooonng time ago due to having NO forward gears ... the plan was for the 700R4 converison, but for now ... I'm gonna rebuild the PG when the time comes. This will be the quickest to get'n her running.

I decided to check out the brakes and steering first:
-
-
Once I removed the wheels, I found the previous owner had installed ALL FOUR NEW DRUMS, SHOES, HARDWARE, and FRT HOSES .....
-
-

-

-
However.....failed to replace leaking wheel cylinders !!!!
-

-
RR line disconnected ... wonder why ??
-

-
-

So parts list for brakes: NEW REAR SHOES, ALL FOUR CYLNDERS, and a NEW REAR HOSE. The front cylinders are just starting to seap under the grommet...so the shoes are ok.
