The "Yellow car" 1970 Olds Rallye 350

Here is my '70 cutlass rallye 350.. When I was 13 or so I started bussing tables at a Catfish restaurant and started saving money for a truck when I turned 16. I wound up getting to drive a hand-me-down 94 nissan hardbody truck and spent my saved money on this car plus two plane tickets.
I met a local man who retired from olds and who has the greatest wealth of automobile knowledge of anyone I have ever met, and he turned me from wanting a 69 camaro to loving oldsmobiles as much as he did..
Back to the story, I bought my father and myself a one way flight from dfw to Raliegh NC for july 2nd 2002. I had never flown and couldn't get insurance on it so we loaded up and headed out, this was probably one of the best times we have ever had together..
Well the car had 44k on the clock (original and verified), and hadn't seen rain since the 70's until the trip home. It was a totally stock, original, and unmolested car aside from being repainted factory colors in 1982.
Well with me being 16 and having a bright yellow muscle car you can imagine how it got driven, kinda funny thinking back at some of the racing memories and how I hot-rodded the crap outta it.
So with 55k on it and driving it back and forth to my first semester of college the original engine took a dump and it was time to build something with a little more pep. I did some research and found a 403, I had it bored 0.030 balanced blueprinted with all the goodies. My main goal with it was to look totally stock but run a hole in the wind and still be a totally streetable car. I also pulled the original trans and got another th350 and had it beefed up hith heavy duty internals.
I ran the car like this for awhile then the original olds rearend let go, so I bought a chevelle 12 bolt and stuffed it with an eaton posi and 373 gears. I upgraded to tubular control arms, and had stockton wheel in ca make these wheels (went from a solid yellow 14x7 to a yellow and chrome 15x7's and 15x8's)
This is still the setup I have in the car now and its still doing good, I have a few plans for it for later on like upgrading to 31 spline axles, replacing the headliner and redoing the front seat foam, and hiding a top shot nos kit on it. here are some pics of it

Re: The "Yellow car" 1970 Olds Rallye 350

Here are a couple more.. And as you can see I tried to make it look stock (it was sooo hard to paint that new edelbrock intake gold!!) Everthing is port matched, Blasted the crappy black coating off the headers and re-did them with some good quality high heat paint. And I think I will have plenty of room under the ram-air aircleaner for my top shot kit... I also wired in an electric fan and hid all the wires (keepin it stock), and I have a line-lock to be hidden as well

Thumbs up Re: The "Yellow car" 1970 Olds Rallye 350

Very nice!! I don't have my first vehicle and it was yellow too but it was a 1966 Chevy 3/4 ton long bed with 283 and 4 speed granny gear. I bought it off a feller that owned the farm next to ours with money I saved from working tobacco and hay. Man your post brought back so many memories.

He is also a good friend of my fathers. Tell him Dwayne Wright (Larry Wrights son) said hello.

Re: The "Yellow car" 1970 Olds Rallye 350

Oh yeah...Sweet car by the way. I really like the way you had the wheels done. My father (who worked for Olds with Bob) has a '70 Cutlass coupe and a '68 Cutlass convertible. The coupe is pretty much completely bone stock but the convertible is more along the lines of what you are doing. He has a 455 in place of the original 350 but he still has the Muncie 4 speed behind it. It looks pretty much stock for anyone who doesn't know the 455 does not belong.

Yep. I think he did go to Dallas a few years back for the Olds nationals. He has attended several Olds nationals. He can do that kinda stuff since he is retired. In fact that's pretty much all he does (mess around with old cars and trucks). Wish I had that kinda time and money.
