I didn't get anything done today. Yesterday and Monday I worked on the rear shock crossmember as well as the panhard bar mounts. The box I posted a picture of had rear drop springs, new rear spring mounts, and a master engine bolt kit. I havent posted for a while because I really didnt get anything done. I struck a deal on a steel floor bed but when I went out to pick it up he told me he would need another hundred dollars. So we drove half an hour home again. And my boss gave me some free tires which I got mounted.

Thanks! I just hope I can get it done for summer.

Today I bolted the rear end in. I still have to set pinion angle, but it is in for shock mockup and panhard bar mockup.

I got the engine back from the machinist last Friday, but never got anything done to it until yesterday. The pistons and crankshaft are now in. I am trying to take it slow so I don't screw anything up. As is, I almost forgot the rear main seal!

I have never seen it done this way before, but, because I don't have a bed complete right now, I decided to use the approximate weight of one to set my pinion angle. That is 200kg of feed bags (440lbs). Just double checking before I weld it up, but the pinion and output shaft should be parallel, right? The pinion angle is 3.5 degrees down to the rear, and the output shaft is the same.

I don't have any pics yet, but the rear end is painted and in, and the panhard bar is finished but needs paint. Today I went to Edmonton and picked up the heads I had on order as well as roller rocker arms and some other miscellaneous parts. The heads are brodix ik180s.

Thanks a lot! Its definitely been a steep learning curve.

For progess, I got the engine finished and in. It still needs a lot of stuff hooked up though. I replaced the trans with the spare rebuilt one I had. I had the flywheel resurfaced and I replaced the clutch. And I pulled out the 305. In about the most redneck way possible!

Well, it has been a while since I last updated. I had finals and school wrapped up. I have decided to keep it off the road for one more year so I can fix the things that have been seriously screwed up by the po. I also want to paint it. I got the engine in and broken in a few weeks ago, and it sounds sweet! The comp xe268 gives it a ton of race car thump at idle. These last few days, I removed the front clip, doors and started gutting the interior so I can repair the rust and paint it. As you can tell by the last picture, the p.o. was fond of rivets and roofing tar. In other parts of the cab there is silicone, sprayfoam and bondo. No fibreglass though!

The intended time always seems to change. Mine was apart for 8 yeast and was suppose to be just to put vortec heads on. LOL. I got a little carried away!!

So last week was the start of senior year. Only 9 months to wrap it up. Now that Im not working full time 6 days a week I should be able to get some progress going. Anyways, this summer I did get some stuff done. I tore the cab down and got it blasted, started stripping paint on the front clip, and ordered a bunch of new parts. I will try post some pics up in the next couple of days.

Man, I fell off this thing hardcore. I can't seem to get motivation anymore. I tore into the cab, and had to buy: new floor (complete unit), new rocker panels, new front and rear lower pillars, new cab corners, and I had to fab up a couple panels they don't sell. Im never going to do body work again. The bedsides were worse than expected, so I ended up buying two new ones, and I haven't started on the bed yet either. I finally got the cab ready for the floor, and it doesn't fit very well at all, so I'm going to have to cut my brand new part. Oh well, won't be anything new to me, none of the parts have fit worth a dang yet.

I completly understand your frustration. I have been there and I swore I'd never do another cab restoration. The problems with the replacement panels are very frustrating, but you will get past it eventually. I spent a whole saturday on my lower pillar and kick panel repair on my passenger side. It looked terrible, I ended up cutting it all apart and re doing it, spent all day the next day finishing just that little repair. I remember it like it was yesterday. LINK None of the repair panels fit great but I had my best luck with Tabco repair patches made in USA. Keep your head up.
