Chips TV Show GMC Stepside

These are shots of the GMC Stepside that Officer Jon Baker drove starting in Season 2. I consider this one of the most beautiful pick ups ever built. This is a High Sierra with a tan interior. Possibly Hickey roll bar and front guard. Not a duel tank truck. The rims are the triangle painted spoke type with rally center caps. BF Goodrich tires.

It also had a tan toneau cover over the bed.

Re: Chips TV Show GMC Stepside

So far I can account for it in three episodes. I will be searching further and come up with an episode list, at least for season 2.

BTW. Ponch got the car from a guy who was trying to set it on fire. He paid next to nothing for it.

And I don't think the bird was a Formula. It was some kind of Formula/Trans Am hybrid mishmash. Either way, if I had Ponch's Poncho and Baker's Jimmy in my garage I'd be a happy camper.

If I remember correctly, a woman stole the bird and flipped it in an episode. A also remember a chase involving the truck on some sand dunes.

As I am going through the episodes, this truck appears in some form or another in almost all season 2 episodes. Some more than others.

Jon should have got his own show, he was a cool low key guy. Why did Ponch always have to get the better women?

Re: Chips TV Show GMC Stepside

CHiPS!!!! One of my favorites as a kid, and will still watch it now if I can find it.

Both truck and car were very cool, but wasnt Ponch's firebird used in a demo derby? Seems to be familiar end to it.

Still fun to watch but in a morbid way...

"Look! A 68 Firebird! Oh man, the crook stole it to try and evade J and P!

***CRUNCH***

Nooooooooooooooll

Rocky, Jim Rockford's father had a sweet gray and maroon 4x4 short bed. Not sure of the year. Somewhere between 76-79. Of course Jim drove the gold Firebird with the blue and yellow California license plate, number 853 OKG.

http://www.hickeyoffroad.com/trucks.html Here's a link to pictures of both trucks. Rocky's truck was a 79 GMC. Jon Baker's truck was listed as 77.
