Newbie with 59 apache project

I have been lurking around here for awhile. Decided to just ask my question.

I am wanting to graft in a subframe to my truck, but i cant find a definitive answer on the donor other than a valore (which i cant find). I have at my disposal a mid 70 and late 70 full size pickup i can use, or a mid 70 chevelle also a pinto (was told that this would work with ALOT of fabricating). I just dont have the funds to go out and buy Mustang 2 IFS.

Re: Newbie with 59 apache project

my buddy is running a mustang II system. You can get the basic parts pretty cheap. I don't think that what you are planning is going to be a "cheap" endeavor either way...

more guys will chime in on what they've done...

Re: Newbie with 59 apache project

Stay away from the Volore, a friend here is in the process of moving his body from a frame with Volare clip to one with a Nova clip. After the first one almost killed him the second time he decided to change. The way he explained it to get them low you have to change the relationship of the suspension so far from "neutral" that any bump steer sends you off to the right or left. It might just be the way his is set up but I saw it and it looked scary.

Re: Newbie with 59 apache project

I only have experience with the camaro clip (70-81) that I welded onto my 59 and it was pretty simple being the first one Ive done. Paid $150 for the clip from the junkyard but most of the cost is yet to come when I rebuild the suspension and brakes.

That is kinda what I had been thinking, but i wasnt sure on tracking. What kind of chevy rearend do I need? I would like to put a ford 9", but it is impossible to find the right width around here. Planning on putting alot of horsepower down.

Is the camaro clip the same width as pickup?

Re: Newbie with 59 apache project

The camaro clips are exactly the same width as the truck frame, thats what makes them so popular for the task force trucks.
