Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

I also plan to customize the rear window and make it power up and down using a dual lift regulator , I built dozens of limo's in the 80's and after thinking about it for while the limo part manufacture make all the parts to be able to easily build a power rear window including the gaskets and steel channel for the glass to raise and lower correctly and since it's a flat back window a custom rear glass can be ordered easily also and still keep the size and look of the original small window of the '67 C 10 . PGW (Pittsburgh Glass Works ) is a major glass manufacture and carries tons of materials ans shop supplies from razor blades to well anything you may need to build your truck shop supply wise ! located in every major city in the US and makes all the clear and green tinted glass for our trucks and low cost Too ! 1 more reason to remove the in cab fuel tank and move it back out of the way of interior customization !

Grumpy old man, I have been wanting to do this same thing. It would be a cool feature. Start a thread on this, I will be glued to it.

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

The VICTIM'S my 2 '67 project trucks .It takes a bunch of leather to build 2 bucket seats with full backs ,headrests ,armrests and pockets on the back of the seats for storage .I had a set of mini van seats to steal the headrest and arm rest parts ,i'm having 2 muncie 4 speed s built for these trucks and you have to use a smaller arm rest so it's not in the way when shifting ! i will take more pictures and measurements of cutting the frames to make the buckets today and post more this evening

You have to be CRAZY jumping into 1 build 2 is just flat out INSANE !

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Here's a great idea I picked up looking on the HAMB hot rod forum:

Good source of (cheap or sometimes even free) upholstery leather is to watch CL or your neighborhood "Shopper" magazine for regular household leather upholstered sofas being gotten-rid of, especially if a there's a tear or burn somewhere on it. GoodWill, etc Thrift Stores are another source.

A full size sofa has enough leather for a couple bucket seats. Lotsa unused leather on the backside of a sofa.

Disassemble the covers, cut & reuse, Presto. Not a whole lot of color selection (creme, brown, black, red, blue, green), but cheap is GOOD if you're not too picky.

Furniture grade leather is just that for furniture , used is even worse , if your on a budget use vinyl at $8.50 a yard and the back of any leather faced sofa is made of color matched vinyl NOT leather .you can buy real leather 2nds or blemished on ebay for about $100.00 a small hide 30-35 square feet so its really not worth the time to salvage used couch leather for your seats .

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Grump, if two builds is flat out insane, what would Three be? Of course that doesn't mention the regular day to day wrecks that normally come and go. I know I have one 68 core and two 70's. I may have to plan a ride up that way with the wife we loved our little trip to Seiverville. Jim

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Bucket seats sure look cool. Unfortunately, I see them as more of an enemy when it comes to putting my arm around a good looking chick, and...well, it just would kill the vibe. I'm sticking with my old-fashioned bench seat. Chicks dig it anyway. Peace. -Dylan

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

Here are a few more pictures the first shows removing the 3rdand 4th line of round springs from the seat back

http://

the second picture shows cutting the top and bottom frame tube leave the thin spring supports long so they will overlap and can be trimmed later

http://

The 3rd picture shows the cut section

http://

The 4th picture shows tack welding the 2 outside cut sections together to form the "bucket" seat back

http://

the 5th picture shows a set of lokar power window switches i had left over from another project I'll use the dual switch mounted in the consol for the side windows and the single for the custom power rear glass ,also shows a 1967 TN low number tag I found on ebay to go on one of the trucks

Re: Easy factory bench to "factory buckets" !

One other benefit from cutting your bench seats down is the original round back rest coil springs are worth a few bucks , But the long seat springs are worth about $10.00 a piece ! So what ever you don't use to repair your own broken springs can be sold to recover the costs of buying another bench so you have 2 to cut down for the bucket mod !I will be listing ORIGINAL SEAT SPRINGS TODAY ! for the guys who need them to repair their bench seats !
