New version of a trailer queen, or maybe this makes it a trailer king?!?

Just towed home a new 6300 lb tag along camper. The ol 'Burb ran like a champ.

Of course the most exciting part about this is the fact that I can justify taking the Burb on vacation. This will be a big test 4 1/2 hour drive to Myrtle Beach, SC pulling a heavy load. *crossing my fingers*

Thought I would share a couple pics.

(and I dont wanna hear "ya shoulda got a vintage Airstream", I wanna restore one someday, but with 3 kids, I am going for practical right now. I need the room)

Awesome! As long as all the usual maintenance has been kept up on the drive train and brakes, which by the looks of it you take very good care of your burb. You will have no problems at all, and a 4 and 1/2 hour tow trip is nothing.

Enjoy your new set up, and have a safe fun trip!

That is one beatiful 'Burb you have there!

I like the fact that you used a later model Suburban as your running gear.

Love your wheels and tire combo.....very clean.

Let us know how your trip went!

Have a great trip. We pulled a pop-up all the way from Iowa to Bonneville twice. Good to see 'burbs still getting used for there purpose.

Do you have any pictures of the chassis swap? How does the vortec tow?

I love that avatar shot with your Burb sitting on the salt flats. Awesome. I'd like to have that same photo one day with my Burb.
"Go to Bonneville" is #55 of 83 on my bucket list. (no particular order though)

About the chassis swap . . . I have no photos of the swap. I bought it after he had just completed the hardest part of the swap and painted it. I just had a few things to do to get it roadworthy. So, I only had about two months of work into it to get it on the road. (now the interior is another story)

So far, the Vortec tows o.k., it runs good, it just bogs down to 45-55 on the hills (on the interstate). And since I don't wanna push it too hard, I just let things settle in where they want to.

And in regards to using Burbs for their purpose... mine is a purpose built, soccer dad/school bus/company car/work truck/mower haulin'/road trippin'/ cruise night daily driver. She just stands out a little more than the mini-vans in the line at the elementary school. haha.

I love this thing. (if I only had a matching Blazer to go with it)

Did I start a trend

That looks cool at least you have good mirrors for towing. I had fun doing lane changes with my stock 4" round mirriors.

Yeah, ever since my dad got his '70 Suburban, I've hated my mirrors . . . until I got this camper.

Re: New version of a trailer queen, or maybe this makes it a trailer king?!?

i know a lot of people like the sport mirrors. but they are a joke on a truck that actually gets used as a truck and so just seem out of place to me. i picked up a pair of tripod mirrors (with the really short arms and the top one is round) like my dad's 72 burb had because i can't see diddly squat backing up solo...those stupid sport mirrors have to go.

i'm still working on my 72 burb c20 before it does big towing duties. back in 1984 my family bought a 71 holiday trav'ler that weights close to 6k and we still have it. i only have a 307 (with performer intake and q-jet swap), 3 on the tree and 4.10 rear. and i'm hoping to tow the trailer from the very bottom of maine up to moncton, nb, canada in the next couple years for the Atlantic Nationals. it will be a bit longer than 4-1/2 hours and i will just take my time and probably go up route 1 for a lot of it. my grandmother lives about 2 hours north of me near the coast so i may might head north after work and make an overnight stop and make for less driving the next day.

the trailer was dropped off at my house last year by my dad in his 99 burb c1500, because my grandmother wanted it out of her driveway where we kept it most of the time. he may haul it back up maine this summer for when my cousins' kids come to visit. i have a 15k class iv hitch on my truck but no trailer harness yet and with a bad center bearing i'm going easy on it!

Groooooooooooooooovy thread baby! I'm diggin all these sweet burbs pullin trailers. As to the mirror debate, I love the looks of my 4" round mirrors. However I could see how they might seem inadequate for towing. Sooooo my pops recently gave me his strap on (alright thats enough laughing) towing mirrors. They are hideous contraptions that temporarily clamp on but will get the job done. He last used them on his 70 Galaxy towing a travel trailer to SoCal in '79.

Trip #1 is in the books, a weekend trip to a lake about 45 minutes away in Mocksville, NC. The 'Burb ran excellent, and we got about a hundred thumbs up along the way. Great time!

That Burb looks great!!!! Here is a shot of our 71/72 combination from a few years ago. And yes...the mirrors wer a joke...but I was going for the vintage look so we used some of the old style UHAUL looking fender hung mirriors not pictured.

I love that you use the burb for its intended use and not as a hot rod / playtoy. I use mine to tow as well and I installed a set of west coast jrs and a 4"x5" convex blind spot mirrors. I can see great with or without a load behind me
