Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Couldn’t tell you what the gas mileage is, my speedometer is disconnected. Floor shift mechanism is in the way, it’s on my list.

My 6 is the integrated head 250, but I do have an older 250 head and most all the other parts I need to convert it.

My grill emblem is a 454, I tell folks it is a 454, minus 204.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

Mine is sitting on the side of the house, just removed the 250 due to a blown head gasket. Pulled the integrated head off, the exhaust manifold was cracked 2/3's of the way around just in front of the heat riser. Took a good look at the block deck and found a crack in the block about two inches long.

Pulled the block and layed it to the side, pulling a 350 from another truck to replace it. First part of the transformation.

In fact my truck is the exact same color as Mr79C10, don't have any pic's as of yet. I guess this is a great time to start.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

s10fan--
I know I've said it before, but I really love that truck. That is exactly what I want--an early 70s stepside with a straight six--perfect daily and I need a stepper to complete my collection.
My wife would leave me...

I'll miss her.

That's a bada$$ looking truck there, S10. I have a 350 in my '73 that I've never heard run(not sure how good it is). If it happens to be bad, I have a fresh 250 on a stand in the corner of the shop that I'll put in...if need be. I like them old sixes...

Thanks! Ya know, I'm a V8 guy to the core but there's something really cool about in-line 6's.

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

man, i can't wait to get my hands on a square body with a six!

i would guess with an overdrive muncie and a set of headers and a clifford performance intake it would scoot! probably get decent mileage too

Re: where are all the 6 bangers?

I have owned two six bangers. a 74 with a 250/ 3-speed STD, and a 76 with the same combo. They ran well enough, but fuel misers they were not. I believe they both probably had fairly low geared diffs. I pulled the 6 out of the 74, and installed a 283 V8 out of a 65 Impala. Bolted it right to the 3-speed. Believe it or not, my fuel mileage actually increased.
