Six lug drums changed over to 5 lug disks...

I Pick up a couple 68 SWB trucks yesterday. Planing to take the best of both and put one together. Today I was checking out the local junk yard and ran across a 72 with all of the 5 lug stuff under it. What do I need to pull off? Do I need the upper and lower a frames or are they the same? How about the tie rod assy? I heard that you need the 72s because the 68s tie rod don't match the 72 spindles. What about the center link? Please give a break down of what I need to pull to make the swap. Thanks in advance for any advice! Krash!

Come on guys!!! I need info ASAP! If I don't go get the parts off the 72 in the morning, there is a big chance it will be gone. And because of work, I won't be able to get back there for a couple of weeks! As many people on here that has done this swap, somebody has got to know. Just hate to let a good oppertunity like this get away!

You can get everything from the spindles out,... or take everything from the a-arms out.
(probably easier)
Get the steering linkage,... or at the very minimum get the center link.
(no one makes these anymore)
You will also need the master cylinder and prop valve.
Any steel lines would help if they are nice.
I would get the 5-lug rearend also.
Might as well take the 5-lug wheels for rollers.

But,... just for your info,... you can use 73-87 parts also.

Can you just cut off the front frame stub?
That might save you some time.
But you really don't need the crossmember itself.

Pretty much what lolife said is what you need and liek he said he they will cut the front frame off it would help alot since that is what I had done of a friends parts truck and I would definately grab the rear axle especially if it is trailing arms truck.

Thanks Guys for the info! One reason I was wanting to know the specics is this is a pull a part type place and they charge by the indivual part. The more you pull, the more it cost. and they don't bend the rules much at all! I am sick to see this truck in the junk yard because it is not in bad shape body wise. But it is starting to get picked over so all of the little quick and easy stuff to get off is almost gone! It break my heart to see it there! The junk yard owner are probably are going to be laughing at me because I'll be out there crying because it like Being at a funeral. This cool truck will be gone soon! It's a Cheyenne too! Oh well, They come and they go! Everything happens for a reason. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away! She was a good truck! Amen! Thanks again guys! Krash!
