68 Shortbed

Pretty excited and I hope I'm not jumping the gun here but I'm pretty sure I just bought my first 67-72. A deal has been made anyway. Texas truck and I've been told a two-three owner truck. I don't know a bunch about these but if you see something that doesn't look right please let me know.

SPID. One thing I'm not sure about is th AC and side trim. I figured the AC would be on the SPID and I thought the side trim only came on CST and Custom trucks?

I know very little about these. Always been more into squarebody trucks. I need info on some of the options on it.

Nice truck! The AC has been added. It has an R4 instead of an A6 compressor that it would have come with. The AC/Heat box looks correct though, along with the outlets inside the cab. The side trim was included in some packages, but it's on the SPID, which shows you could buy it separately from any trim package.

Thanks! I saw the spid sheet but I guess it threw me off because I thought it was only a Custom or CST only trim. Good to know anyway. The brake pedal looks like a standard shift pedal (small) unless all these trucks have small pedals.

I've been wondering about the paint myself. Would be cool if it was all original but it wouldn't surprise me if it has been repainted.

Thanks for the rotate. I did it twice and it still turned on me. Maybe I needed to resize.

Re: 68 Shortbed

As mentioned, the AC is not original, but to me a definite plus. To be really picky, the outside mirrors are wrong. They should be round, but it looks like the mounts are correct, just the mirrors themselves being wrong. Also, the brake pedal is correct. No larger pedal was used for automatic trucks. Look like you got yourself a damn nice truck!

Just so I am on the same page about the AC. Are you saying like mentioned above that just the compressor is wrong or the whole AC system? I was thinking the vents in the cab were for AC trucks? Like I said I don't know much about these so any info is helpful. If I can get the truck home it will go well with my 66 Nova. Thanks! Oh and it is fine by me to be picky. I am myself at times. At least I will know what it is suppose to have or not.

Re: 68 Shortbed

I believe the only rust on the truck is from the battery. The lower portion of the passenger fender has some from battery acid I assume. I am pretty excited about it as I have been looking for a while. I have always had squarebody trucks so this is somewhat of a change. I like to think a better investment also.

Re: 68 Shortbed

That's a very fine example!

It looks very origional to me. The side makers are from a later truck and the rally wheels are not technically correct but look great on that truck IMO.

The paint looks to be a little better than the paint on my truck which is also original. The black CHEVROLET lettering on the tailgate looks like mine. I also see firewall lettering which indicates original paint.

Is there a back story on this survivor?

I don't have much information on it. Supposedly a Texas truck which is still where it is at for until I ship it to Illinois. I am told a 2-3 owner truck that was thought to have come out of Odessa. Supposedly the odometer has rolled over once but I don't know much more than that unfortunately.

I made a deal on it last night. There may be an ad on marketplace, not sure. I didn't see it on marketplace when I came across it.

Re: 68 Shortbed

Well fellas this won't be happening. Shortly after making a deal on the truck he ended up selling it and not even telling me. Took him for his word which means very little in this world anymore. I had messaged him multiple times over the last year about this truck letting him know I was very interested. Just sickening. Thanks for all the kind words though. I appreciate it.

The sad thing is that does not surprise me. I have had that happen to me before on deals. I learned that get some type of cash deposit down ASAP with a bill of sale indicating the agreement.
