Saturdays project a draw knife

Well I need to debark some logs for a bar project to cover up some lally columns. Started with some flat stock cut out the basic shape and gave it an edge. Tomorrow I'll be using some pear wood that the bear took down last summer for handles . Ya he broke it in half.

I do most of the grinding and cutting outside. Just to much stuff in the barn that would fire right up. Not very sexy but it does what its supposed to do

I have a couple of originals that I use from time to time. It looks like that should do the job. I would epoxy a couple of wooden handles on it, that will be hard on the hands after a while....

I always enjoy seeing tools being made. That's how it all began. The best is in a machine shop where they can make a tool to make a tool to make a tool. Nice draw knife. I too have a a couple antique ones

Orbital with 80 the 100 then 150 ,220. Then by hand up to 500. Polished with metal polish and 0000 steel wool. When I go to the garage on my other property I'll hit it with rouge and cloth wheel on the grinder. Then I wont want to use it

Re: Saturdays project a draw knife

Niiice! I'm looking to make some one-off wood carving tools for reaching places the standard stuff won't reach. I may just cut the carving blank apart so that I can reach those spots. I don't really have the blacksmithing stuff for what I want. One thing- that left end of the blade is going to bite you. I know that I'd get sliced by it.

Not really it's got a good margin to it.
